A Whole Village Lives in that Tree

A whole village lives in the ancient tree. The Villagers boats are winched up into the tree, in affect creating a crude lift.

The Building Continues

Interior bracing is added for it is not uncommon for cardstock to warp. Bracing adds strength to the structure and will add a surface for the front wall to be glued to.

I have completed two of three stone foundation sections for the addition. The stones were made from bits of fibered-paper egg cartons that were glued to a piece of Bristol board.

I don’t believe that I am going to use the same technique the foundation for the main building. Building these foundation walls was a tedious process.

Amarantha’s Riddle

“There are those who seek me a lifetime but never we meet,
And those I kiss but who tremble me beneath ungrateful feet.

At times I seem to favor the clever and the fair,
But I bless all those who are brave enough to dare.

By large, my ministrations are soft-handed and sweet,
But scorned, I become a difficult beast to defeat.

For through each of my strikes land a powerful blow,
When I kill, I do it slow.”

What is the aswer to this riddle?

Bulletin 101001: BVS-1

NAME: Phssthpak’s Star. Later renamed BVS-1, by the Institute of Knowledge on Jinx.

CLASSIFICATION: Neutron star.

MASS: 1.3 times mass of Sol.

COMPOSTOIN: Eleven miles diameter of neutronium, topped by half mile of collapsed matter, and topped by perhaps twelve feet of normal matter.

SURFACE GRAVITY: 1.7 x 10^11 G, Earth standard.

REMARKS: First non-radiating neutron star ever discovered. Atypical compared with many known pulsars; but stars of the BVS type would be difficult to find as compared with pulsars. BVS-1 many have started life as a pulsar, with radiating gas shell, one hundred million to a billion years ago, then transferred it rotation to the gas shell, dissipating it in the process.

A Map of Prythian

“I looked northward and stepped back again. The six other courts of Prythian occupied a patchwork of territories. Autumns, Summer, and Winters were easy enough to pick out. Then above them, two glowing courts; the southernmost one, a softer redder pallet, the Dawn Court; above in bright gold and yellow and blue, the Day Court. And above that, perched in a frozen mountainous spread of darkness and stars, the sprawling massive territory of the Night Court.”

A Court of Thorns and Roses, Sarah J. Maas

Accompanying maps are always a nice addition to any story, especially when the author is trying to create a realistic imaginary world. Mass does a great job in her “A Court of Thorns and Roses”. This is the first in her series by the same name.

Once I got into the text, I had a hard time putting it down. It has a great plot: the forces of good against the forces of evil, your typical fantasy genre. The story is around a female protagonist , a mortal huntress, and her High Lord Farie lover who quite reluctantly fight the powers of darkness that are trying to take over Prythian.

Airship Over London

Screenshot from Sherlock Holmes

The airship is propelled by rotor blades above and below the airship. There is a small repeating gun installed for offensive and defensive maneuvers.

This isn't your average Sherlock Holmes story. This video includes autimated rubber dinosaurs and a Kraken. The movie stars Dominic Keating and Gareth David-Lloyd.

Bulletin 100100: Persephone

"Persphone: 1 First discovered by mathematical analysis of perturbations in the orbits of certain known comets in 1972. First sighted in 1984. Persphone is retrograde, in an orbit titled sixty-one degrees to the ectiptic. Mass is somewhere less than Saturn.

Possible first explory visit to Persphone was by Alan Jobob Mion in 2094. Mion's claim has cast into doubt by the lack of photographic evidence (his films were damaged by radiation, as was Mion himself; he had stipped shielding from his ship to save fuel) and by Mion's claim that Persphone has a moon. A more formal exploratory expedition, was launched in 2070, Persphone was reported to have no moons and an atmosphere typical of gas giant worlds, rich in hydrogen compounds. The planets atmosphere would be worth scoop-mining if the planet itself were as available as Jupiter."

1. When the novel was written Pluto was still considered to be a planet in our solar system, which would make Persephone the tenth planet .

Having Another Go at the Window

I am using wood strips for the trim on my windows. I had completed both windows, at least the trim for both windows and what happened is what always happens when I rush through a project. I messed up! I am going to have to redo the trim for the window on the right.

I will building the inside, that is the "window" itself by placing the window frame directly on retangle of clear polystyrene.

The Making of the Jenny Haniver

Mortal Engines, ‎Universal Pictures, November 27, 2018, The Jenny Haniver

I viewed Mortal Engines sometime ago and had forgotten all about the Jenny Haniver until I came across this short video on the making of the Jenny Haniver. Like most movie sets a minature version of the prop is typically created before making the full sized one.

The video doesn't contain too much in the way of the actual construction of the Jenny Haniver, but it does show both versions, the miniature during different phases of construction and the full life-like version during filming.

Framing the Windows

I have started to frame out the windows. Perhaps I should have used the flash for this one. The details are not too good on this picture. I will need to fix that area above the window. The clapboard section fell off from.

This room will measure a square 12.6 feet all around and will receive a rock foundation. As will the rest of the structure. I have ordered some white LED’s and plan to make this my first lighted structure.

Old World Doors

This is another example of my saving a link for further examination. Old World Doors features miniature doors created out of paper. Very fine and inspiring work.
