Narrow gauge railways from the United States and Chili.
This blog is mainly a place where I can record my current interests. It is also a place where I can showcase my current projects, obtain inspiration, keep track of suppliers, and the many other little things that make-up who I am and what I am presently about.

The Rural Lumber Mill
Every once in-a-while I find these lost assembly instructions. This instruction sheet is to a Woodland Scenics rurual saw mill. These kits are cast from a white metal and formally what I referred to as "small projects" and collection.
I wouldn't say that it is a simple build, however it is far from being complex. I plan on using CA glue. With all the small parts I would definitely use a pair of tweesers to attach the very small parts.

Period German Steam Engines
I believe that these steam engines are of German design. I found this and the following in Babylon Berlin. Not a bad depiction of a period train station, as well.
As found on Babylon Berlin.

Reading & Northern Railroad Steam Engine and Passenger Car
It was another fine day for rail watching, I don't know how many more we will see of these mild sunny days. I caught this and the passenger car chugging by, The Reading & Northern Railroad has several steam engines and their arrival is closely watched by many.

Potter County Logging Museum
Between the mill and the loco sheds was much to see at the logging museum.
I should have posted some images from the mill, perhaps another time.
A log disconect sits on a side rail. What's awaiting us in those sheds?
I see something sticking its self out there.
It was a shay locomotive. I haven't seen one of these before.
I knew the Shay was used by logging companies, but I didn't know the particulars for this engine. I am glad the plaque was there.
These photos were taken sometime ago and were taken in Potter County, in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. This a great place to visit. We drove for miles and didn't encounter one car on the highway. Very remote.

1/87 Scale Steam Engine, Vertical and Horizontal Boilers
Here is a small collection of a steam engine and boilers that I have coompleted. As thses have been built sometime ago, I cannot say, with the exception of one model, where they are from.
RioGrande Models Ltd. Stationary Long Boiler. Cast in resin.
Steam boiler has seen its better days and has been loaded on a pallet and has become a collection point for other miscellaneous items.1/87 scale & cast in resin
Back in the day, this steam engine might have supplied power for anyone of many manufacturing concerns. Constructed from a kit of metal parts.

Reading Blue Mountain and Northern Railroad Steam Engine
I was up early today and out of the house to catch sight of a newly restored Steam Engine. I am sorry, but did not do my homework to find out what type of steam engine it was, nor its wheel configuration. As you can see I wasn't the only person interested in its appearence.

The Cray Valley Railroad
I learned about the Cray Valley Railroad through my reading of Narrow Gauge and Shortline Gazette. The article, written by Peter Bartlett, was about his Hon30 railroad. Bartlett a native of England models an American narrow gauge prototype.
I am truly amazed by Bartlett’s roster of locomotives. The Cray Valley Railroad features dozens of steam, locomotives and critters of both types. This layout is truly a one of kind.

Curiosities of Locomotive Design
Puffing Billy image as found here in the public domain.
Curiosities of Locomotive Design was republished by the Catskill Archive and features several fanciful locomotive designs that lead up to "present day" steam locomotive design. This is an interesting treatise was taken from Angus Sinclair's "Development of the Locomotive Engine, Railway and Locomotive Engineering—September-December, 1907

Small Projects-Woodland Scenics Steam Engine and Hammer Mill
Why would I be compelled to start another project when twenty plus projects languish on my workbench? I am in the mood for a construction project, one in which I can complete in short order. The 1/87 scale Woodland Scenics Steam Engine and Hammer Mill is molded in pewter. Hammer mills are used to grind, pulverize, and crush a wide range of materials. With the attached head on this particular hammer mill, its looks like there might be some wood splitting to be done.
