Two Games fit for the Season

I am a little late getting this to post and had wanted to make this post well before Christmas, but with only two days past Christmas day I feel that this post is still within the reason.

Santa and Goblin War

This map and counter game was first featured in Draken Games Catalog #6 and now is available in Draken’s Mini-Game Compendium. The Santa and Goblin War game is two-page print and play game, which includes 48 counters, about a page of instructions, and a full page map (playing board). The Santa and Goblin War game is a game where Elf and Goblin slog it out with snowballs. That’s right, no death here, just time for a “hot bath and hot coco”.

There are three different types of units for each faction. For the Elf’s there are Elves, Elves on reindeer, and Polar bears as elite units. The Goblin faction includes Goblins, Goblins on wolves, and Evil snowmen. These units are represented on the counters. The counters include movement and break values for each unit and the map includes terrain elements for woods, hills, river, bridge, and Santa House. These elements effect the movement values.

Santa and Goblin War game is a turn based game works on a point system, which is calculated after ten rounds. Points are award to the faction who controls the different sectors on the map after the tenth round.

Sleigh Wars: Xmas Mayhem

Sleigh Wars was first published back in 1985. I had been looking for the download link for my Sink the Bismarck post. I entered the link into my browsers address-bar and instead of getting the Sink the Bismarck game I was led the Sleigh Wars game. Someone realized their mistake and pointed the link back to the correct file. I have tried to find a link for this game, but to no avail. Under the odd circumstances in which this game was acquired I thought that I must make a post and review the game.

Sleigh Wars is a print and play board game that can be played by two to four players. A four player game is recommended. The PDF includes a large game board that is printed from two separate pages, five player aids, and a set of counters representing movement, some of the weapons, presents to be delivered, and four sleighs. In addition, there are two pages of game rules. There are three tables featuring crash rules, weapons and combat, and range modifier attributes. Sleigh Wars and offers multiple weapons systems such as a Turkey Cannon, Xmascette, Lasers, Brandy Flamer, Snowstormer and a "Christmas pudding Bomb". The game can also be played with 3-D movement rules. The object is to deliver six presents to six homes before your opponents do.

Merry Christmas from Et le Pere Noel, the Mice of Redwall, & Google

The 1/72 Et le Pere Noel miniature is from Ykreol and is part of their Nativity set. The miniature was fun to paint, albeit it has become a tad frustrating. On two occasions paint peeled of the miniature and I was stuck having to touch the old gent up with a dab of paint.

The Christmas miniature with the mice and tree are not really the mice of Redwall. I only imagined the mice of the Abbey being so employed decorating their Christmas tree in this fashion. The miniature is actually from my wife collections of ceramic pieces, something she puts out during the Christmas season.

Google is featuring a set of Christmas Doodles. This set offers several holiday themed paper-craft toys. At the time of of this writing Google has published two Holidays 2015 Christmas goodies doodles.

The Spell Begins to Break

Like I had mentioned in an earlier post, the white witch Jadis put a spell over all the land so it was always winter and never Christmas, but as Aslen drew closer the spell over the land was starting to thaw. It was becoming spring again.

With the thaw Father Christmas was finely able to make a visit to Narnia, and he has gifts for all the occupants of Narnia. Jadis had kept him away long enough.

“I’ve come at last”, Father Christmas said. “She has kept me out for long time, but I have got in at last”.

Father Christmas did not bring toys for the children, but tools. Father Christmas handed Peter a shield and a sword. He gave Susan a bow and a quiver of arrows. And Lucy received a small dagger and a decorative bottle that contain a sweet cordial that was to be given to those who get injured during the upcoming battle with the white witch and all those that were with her.

Add Some Personality to Your HO Model Train Layout

There are number interesting characters you can add to the crowds and scenes on your layout. These notorious characters will definitely add some personality to your scenes.

Santa Clause

I don’t know how you feel about Santa, but I believe in him. This figure is equipped with the correct costume and just needs to be painted in the proper colors.

Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson

I don’t know how he and his side kick got on my layout, but I am sure the mystery will be solved very soon. Holmes totes his pipe; well it looks a pipe to me, and Watson his top hat.

Baby Face Nelson

He is the most notorious of the bunch, but doesn’t Santa break into houses and steal cookies? I better be careful now. I do want those brass locomotives delivered to my house without being broken. Nelson sports a machine gun. I wouldn’t want to tick this guy off.

The above figures can be purchased from Scale Figures for $1.50 a piece, unpainted and $3.50 painted. These have remarkable detail and character for the scale.

The Bosco and Galileo Lines

Another place for unique HO figures is Sierra Scale Models which feature Bosco and Galileo figures. These figures are not cheap, come painted, and at least the Bosco line, are quite unique. The Bosco line features some pretty hefty characters, not to mention, notorious in their own right.

You have the three bandito brothers: Gordo Sorfeetz, Mitad Sorfeetz, and Pequeno Sorfeetz. To say that these three guys are stuffed shirts would not be an over statement. They look like they have had too many fried tortilla chips and re-fried beans, not to mention a few too many cervezas. "Una cerveza, por favor".

Archibald Peter Van Slurp and Horace P. Vestibule III are couple of heavy weight contenders. You better make sure that your layouts framework is good and sturdy before placing these guys.

We don’t see enough overweight people on our layouts. Most of our figures are thin, look sickly, and are boring to look at. It really does take all kinds, you know.
