Small Wagons

Screenshot is from "All Quiet on the Eastern Front".

I am assuming this tank car is of WWI French Design, but it could be from Germany. It might have been used to carry mustard or some other type of gas to the front.

Revell's 1/72 Sopwith Triplane

Revell's #04187 1/72 scale model aircraft is modeled after a British WWI aircraft that was first introduced in France in 1917.

The box indicates that this model is for a skill level 3 modeler, which according to the literature on the box means the kit has 100 or more parts and is geared for an advanced modeler. However, with only two spree and approximately 25 parts this model could be built by any modeler with some kit experience.

The parts are well formed and the instructions, with its illustrations and building symbols are straight forward and easy to understand. The only down side to this particular model is if you want to depict the aircraft in an authentic livery you will need twelve colors of paint.

Included in the kit is a pilot figure. Figures are always a plus when trying to create a realistic prototype or scene. There is also a set of decals that identifies the aircraft as one belonging to the Royal air force.

1/72 Scale British WWI Scout Car

I purchased this 1/72 model (72102) sometime ago from Squadron. It is manufactured by RPM , a Polish company, and represents a 1916 Ford Model T. The model package is small as well are the parts. The package contains two spruces with many small, well formed, and delicate parts.

There are no figures included in this kit, much to my dismay, however there a sheet of decals, a good set of instructions printed on the back of the box, and some illustrations indicating how the model could be painted.

A couple of the models enduring features are its small size, its unique lines and its Lewis gun. There aren't any ammo boxes included in with this kit, but these can be easily fabricated out of some scrap plastic strip.

Heroics and Ros WWI 1-300 scale Figures and Vehicles

Heroics and Ros offers a whole line of 1/300 scale figures and vehicles, from the ancients, to modern figures and military vehicles. What got my attention was their line of 1/300 scale WWI figures and vehicles.

I have not seen any other supplier of WWI miniatures in this scale. The detail of these miniatures looks pretty good on those featured in their gallery. I look forward to ordering a few of these miniatures for a WWI skirmish game.

Two Horse Drawn Wagons I Would like Build in 2014

The two horse drawn wagons are scaled at 1/72 and represent two unique periods of history. There is ancient Roman Nobelman's Chariot and a WWI Field Wagon.

The Roman Nobleman’s Chariot comes with a chariot, 2 horses and 2 figures. The two figures represent the nobles man and servant rider. The chariot is an elaborate affair, at least for that period. The manufacturer is Ykreol. This will be my second model that I will build from Ykreol, a French company. The model has been reviewed by the Plastic Soldier Review.

This is my first piece from this period. I am not all that interested in this period of history, but thought the model would be a nice addition to my collection of horse drawn wagons.

For supplemental miniatures Linear-B Roman Port set could be used to add to the scene. This set has 48 figures in twelve poses.

The WWI Field Wagon is a product of Hat Industries Figures. This kit includes three complete wagons, with two riders and two horses each.

WWI is one of my favorite periods. I like this eras mechanized and armored vehicles. These vehicle, still in their infancy, used some very singular designs.

Supplements for this set is a set of Airfix Models’ WWI German infantry. This would give me several soldiers walking carrying their guns. They would play the part as guards.

15mm WWI Whippet Tank

The model from Blue Moon Manufacturing is my fist 15mm casting. Blue Moon offers several WWI tanks so I am sure I will be ordering another at another point in time.
The tank is a resin casting and comes with a metal spruce that includes six machine gun barrels. The casting contained a little flash that needed to be removed. I used a hobby knife and file to remove the flash and I had to putty a few small irregularities on the front of the tank. It looks like I may have to drill out the openings for the four machine gun barrels with a small drill bit.

I have done some research into this tank and have included these resources below. These sites and images should give me plenty of fodder when it comes time to paint and weather this casting.
The Whippet tank was a British tank that saw action against the Germans in 1918. The tank weighed 15 tons and had a range of 80 miles. It was armed with 3 or 4 7.7mm Hotchkiss machine guns and could travel at a speed of 8 miles per hour.
