Having recently viewed the hobbit trilogy, which included the Hobbit an Unexpected Journey, the Hobbit, the Desolation of Smaug, and the Hobbit the Battle of the Five Armies I was looking for more information about dragons and Smaug. This is a short treatsie on that topic.

Using the techniques mentioned here, Adam produced a very fine copy of Gandalf's Pipe, that is of the Hobbit fame. However, please keep in mind that the materials and techiques used here are not the best for a pipe you want to actully want to smoke.

The Dwarfs and company came upon the Trolls cave and found that it was full of plunder including several swords that had been fashioned in Gondolin and used in the last goblin wars. These swords were ancient and were made skillfully. Thorin, Gandalf, and Bilbo had each acquired one of these swords. They glow blue when anywhere near a goblin.
Two of three swords were given names, once by the maker and again by the goblins. Thorin’s sword was named Orcrist or Goblin cleaver which the goblins called Biter. They hated this sword and anyone who carried it.
Gandolf’s was named Glamdring the Foe-hammer. This sword was adeptly named Beater by the goblins. If it were possible, the goblins hatred for Beater was worse than for that of Biter.

As it were Thorin and company unknowingly made camp on the “front porch”, of Goblin town and were taken hostage and herded to the Great Goblin.

Dol Guldur- “Hill of Sorcery” was the treeless height in the south-west of Mirkwood, where the Necromancer dwelt until he was finely revealed as Sauron (The Dark Power). He would eventually be banished by Galadriel and the other members of the White Council.

Although Gullum got his name after his habit of making "a horrible swallowing noise in his throat", he started out as Sméagol, a hobbit of the tribe of the Stoors, who lived near the Gladden Fields. At the time of his death Gollum was about 589 years old. Sméagol know longer resembled a Hobbit after he had been “deformed and twisted in both body and mind by the corruption of the Ring.”
The influence of Ring affected just about all who came in contact with it. Sméagol had first came in contact with the ring while out fishing with a mate. Sméagol had been dragged out of the boat in which had been fishing by a great fish, a large fish for a Hobbit anyway. Sméagol went for a bit of a swim while still holding on to the pole as the fish swam along.
The fish would eventually get away, but while in Sméagol's underwater travels he encountered the Ring. Upon swimming back to shore his fishing buddy noticed the Ring and wanted it for himself, the two got into an altercation and Sméagol slew his friend. The evil in the ring having influenced Sméagol to murder and Sméagol goes into self-exile.

Lord of the Rings: Return of the King.
At the start of the Hobbit Gandalf visits Bilbo Baggins and suggests that Bilbo accompany a party on an adventure. Bilbo rejects the offer and goes back into his home leaving Gandalf standing outside. Not having given up on Bilbo, and before leaving, Gandalf marks Bilbo’s door for the Dwarfs that have been instructed to meet here, by Gandalf.
Little did Bilbo know that Gandalf had previously met with Thorin Oakenshield, and a few other Dwarfs, to discuss an upcoming expedition to the Lonely Mountain. Gandalf thought that Bilbo would be a good addition to their troop; however Thorin and the other Dwarfs had to be persuaded. All was left to the meeting at Bilbo’s home. Their goal was to retake the mountain kingdom from Smaug the dragon

This is not the first Histroifigs miniature I have purchased or have completed. I own of three of Histroifigs, Classic Fantasy Figures. Formally I had completed a Histroifigs Elf firing a long bow.
In my reading I have learned a few things about this line of miniatures and had not realized the complete significance of these miniatures. I will have to make another post or two about this line of miniatures explaining their significance to the gaming community.
In order to complete a scene, I have in mind; I would like to pair the Hobbit up with the Histroifig wizard on a rearing horse.
Although this site seems to be have been around for some time, I am just finding out about it. Visit and interact with Hobbits, Dwarves & Dragons on a map of Middle Earth. This site is best viewed using Google Chrome, but can be visited using Firefox. Very cool!
