One of my First Materials Stashs

This was when mu materials collection was rather small. I had everything in one container. It got to a point where I had to devide my materials by type. This made it eaiser to find the materials I needed.

Made my Own Small Parts Organzer

I was working on a project where I needed a set of small pieces of stock close at hand. I used four small portions of paper towel inner rolls. These were the more sturdy types found in indutrial settings. I cut them to size and glued them together and then glued them to a piece of stiff cardboard.

I have finished the project, but thought this organizer might be usefull for my smaller strips of plastic and wood. They may not be pretty but they are usefull.

Hunting for Materials for your Next Project?

If you keep am open mind you can find useful materials just about everywhere. Although I am trying to keep the clutter from getting out of hand I hold on to a lot of different materials. I may not know how or when they might be used, but as long as I don't have too many and have some where to store them I will put the materials aside.

Organization through Micronization

I dumped my scale panels that I had formerly had in a perscription bottle to a bank envelope. This will take up less space. I have been using these envelopes for my bits of usually paper leftovers. There are also great when collecting bits for the next project. I am currently building another structure for the "village" and these panels are being added to a large storm drain pipe (a flimsy cardboard tissue core) to add to its overall structure and to add detail.

Material Organization - Plastics - By Type & Color

How else would you organize these byte-sized bits except by type or color.

Remembering, a greebly can be and usually are created from something larger. A corner, a tip, a rectangle, or god knows what else.

Small Paper & Wood Project Parts Organization and Storage

I use a variety of means to store and help organize my materials and my project parts. If I would work on one project at a time I wouldn't have the problem of loosing project parts. So with small projects: paper, wood, and some plastics I will take on of these bank envelopes from the stack, jot a few descriptive words on the top, and store my parts and or materials in the envelope until I am ready to come back to it.

Here is a collection of these envelopes which I thought, at some point, might be fun to go through, especailly since I see I have at least two projects, in the mix, that need to be completed.

Break Out Box - Plastic Rod and Tube Bits

As the contents of my parts collection grow I often need to think about sub-dividing the contents of one countainer into one or more countainers.

In this case, which cost me about $1.00 I have moved my rods and tubes, both round and sqaure into their own countainer, creating another sub-collection which includes bits of misc. tube and rod from projects, cash register tubes spools, small straws and stirrers, and empty pen tubes. They reside with other round and tubular bits, ready to be used in some scratch building & kit-bashing project.
