Basic scratch building from card - Simple modern waterside building

A paper building without protrusions is non-starter for me. Without these, the structure is flat and two dimensional. However, if you add some trim around the door or windows you add some interest to the structure. Over all this buildings treatment has created a nice little building.

Another thing you can do with a "paper" building is to stick these toward the back of your layout where their lack of dimension are less likely to be noticed.

Miniature Master Piece. 2025 Narrow Gauge Festivile in Tokyo Japan

The Japanese are some of the finiest modelers, especailly in smaller scales. I salvate when seeing so many cute locomotives whirling around in their small circumference of tracks. There are many small locomotives featured here and in many scales. So many beautiful small piece's of miniature goodness.

How Layers Bring Card Models to Life

This is a grand project and I salute the author for his persistence and patience. As you can imagine a project like this takes a committment. If you visit his site you will notice that this structure isn't his first.

Super Tiny Model House

This author used some of the same techniques in his structure, but in a much smaller scale. Both of these models are exquisite and very inspiring.

Two Odd and Unusual 1/24 Scale Models

1/24 Scale Resin Boatman

This is an odd rsin sculpt and is very economical. I don't know whether I will purchase one of these models.

1/24 Scale Resin Motorcycle Girl

Interesting piece, economical, and it shouldn't be to difficult to finish.

The 1/100 Scale Rescue Boat Has Arrived

The instructions aren't has streight forward as I would liked and it took me a few minutes studying the instructions, studying the parts sprues, and even a glance or two at the image of the completed model.

This is a tiny model and care must be taken when removing parts from the sprue and during assemble. However, it will make for a very smart looking miniature model.

Laser cut 1/100 Scale Lifeboat Kit

It looks like it might be a fun kit to build. I recently found a couple additional laser cut wooden kits that deserve another look.

Creating your own Greeble

Greeble is used to add effects and thus to add interesting facets to a model. So many model and special effect makers use parts from scale model kits for their greeble. I am not under no contract, nor do I have a large budget for these kits.

A Greeble Day

The greeble on the left were creating by cutting small pieces from a square tube. The greeble on the left are either under construction or have been completed using bits of left over plastic from other projects.

Greeble can be something as simple as adding geometrical shapes, such as vertical and horizontal strips to a scratch built model. Patterns can be created by stacking strips vertically or horizontally. You could also add small bits of round or square rods into some some sort of simple pattern.

Greeble can be created from just about anything. Take these two pieces of sprue and the inter-workings of a deodorant applicator.

Armageddon Miniatures and Effects

Several of these craft were built all the way up to 1/4 scale. Very interesting behind-the-scenes look at the special effects and the miniatures that went into production of this film.

Scavenging Bits from a Door and Window Casting

I picked this window and door casting out of my windows and doors bin the other day while looking for odds and ends for an upcoming project. However, the dutch door seemed to be bit underscale. The door measures 2.5 scale feet wide, which is acceceptable and 4.5 feet high, which in most cases is way under scale. Although most doors measure 7 foot high, finding a door that measurers less than this is not improbable, however unless the structure is being built for darfs, 4.5 feet is not going to work. Not if you have scaled itens close by.

The windows on the other hand measure 2 by 2.5 scale feet (1/87 scale) which makes them usefull for an upcoming project. The door, well I will throw back into my collection of doors and windows and see what comes of it. Prehaps I will want ot build a wee little structure for darfs someday.

A Model T in 1/87 Scale

This was a "small project" and was an all metal kit. I converted it into a pick-up with a few pieces of leftover stripwood. It was a fun small project and took me about a hour to assemble and paint. I am sorry, but I don't remember where I obtained this kit.

The Making and Miniature Effects of the Hunt of the Red October

The Hunt of the Red October with Sean Connery, was a 1990 American submarine spy thriller.

It should not surprise us that the movie made extensive use of special effects. The video takes the viewer behind the scenes and explains the use of special effects that were used throughout the movie.
