So Many DIY Robots -

Recap of my collection of Scratch built/Kitbash Robots:

It is robot mania here with this collection of DIY robots. They are, for the most part, built from left-overs, scavaged parts and the bits of these parts. This is a beautiful and wonderful collection. The author mentioned something about spending a whole year building robots. I beleive he should.

I Regress

The build of the distlation tank and engine is coming a long. Although the engine has been completed the distlation tank still needs a few details:

1. Steps up to the tank platform
2. A wooden ladder up to the top of the tank
3. Two feeder pipes from the top (I need to drill a couple of wholes on the top of the tank)
4. Door for underneath platform

Most of these components have been completed and are wating to be added in.

Declutter and Isolate Through the Use of Foamcore

I have too much clutter on my workbench and I continue to loose or misplace project components. So I have built a couple of parts trays from leftover foamcore bits. These trays only correct the problem with the clutter in a small way, but any step in the right direction is welcome.

I used bits of copper wire as staples to insure the corners stayed where they are meant to be while the glue dried.

I Want to Build One of These

These structures facinate me and I have been wanting to build something like this for some time. I was thinking of using cardstock built upon a strip wood framework. As I see it you could build the lower floors securly and then continue to build on the upper floors. I have studied many of these structures and there are many ways to fashion these structures.

The Fabrication of Components for Induction Engine and Distillation Tank

There is the little thing of needing some paint and then I can glue the copper rod for the induction engine in place.

There are a couple of small greeblies to be added to the base and to the distillation tank. The base was taken from a box of discarded pieces. I have no idea of its orignal proposed use.

The Fabrication of Polystyrene Components

The material I cut the three components below from was about this size. Polystrene is easy to work with and is very forgiving. I am still working on getting everything plumb aand true.

The circle is for the top of a distillation tank, the rectangle is the top of the platform that will hold the Induction Engine, and the square on the right is the metal platform for the distillation tank.

IHC Box Art : partial line of products

I own a few of these. I had purchased them for kit-bashing projects. I wish I had purchased a few more of these models, since they have become harder to locate. Although they may not have the same amount of detail as other kits they are well made and simply constructed, and you can always had your own details.

More Greeble : Pipe Rails

I scribed horizontal lines down both sides of the strip and plan on adding holes at either end big enough to accept tubing. At the moment, I have no idea on what these specifically may be used for. They will be added to something appropriate.

At the time I laid these rails out I had no idea as to what they might become. I decided they would become "pipe rails"

Tamiya Putty

Although its consistancy is almost perfect it does have a strong oder and is quite toxic to work with. The Tamiya model putty is grey and flows well from the tube.

Building with Greeblies : Induction Engine

Keeping it simple and painting the core black. Wrap and glue thin copper wire in the grooves and adhere to the textured black base. A small control box to be added on the base.

It didn't happen that way and I am still tweaking its design. I have painted the cork screw copper and drilled two small holes on the bottom of the rod. I was planning on adding two small stands here, but after I gave it a try and it all seemed too flimsy. The center piece needs a bit of touch-up where I used aluminum paint. An equipment box needs to fabricated and "attached" to the base of the screw.

Scenic Details - Trackside Junk - A Broken Hand Car

I don't know how I could have missed this infomation leaflet with the assembly instructions for the assembly of a broken hand car. This is the Woodland Scenics Details Trackside Junk, D202 metal details kit.

This was a simple build and with a little paint and weathering it turned out a convincing model.

One of my First Materials Stashs

This was when mu materials collection was rather small. I had everything in one container. It got to a point where I had to devide my materials by type. This made it eaiser to find the materials I needed.

I don't rember the manufacturer of this kit.

As of today, this craftment kit or an old water tank sits unfinished.

Scratch Built Filtration Unit

This is a scratch build of a filtration unit. I formed bits of styrene components into what you see here.

Another greeble. I am waiting on the model putty to putty to fill in a couple of crevices. (the model putty came through the mail). The putty worked great and I like the end result.

Basic scratch building from card - Simple modern waterside building

A paper building without protrusions is non-starter for me. Without these, the structure is flat and two dimensional. However, if you add some trim around the door or windows you add some interest to the structure. Over all this buildings treatment has created a nice little building.

Another thing you can do with a "paper" building is to stick these toward the back of your layout where their lack of dimension are less likely to be noticed.

Another Set of Reaper Familar Miniatures

I am waiting on a shipment of 10-0 paint brushes. This is Reapers #02983, Familiar Pack IX. This is from their Dark Heaven Legends series. This set includes some interesting characters. Counting the last set I took in that is twelve miniatures to paint. It will be fun.

I believe everyone should try a Linux distro and see what you think. Unlike Microsoft Windows Linux provides multiple versions to try. Think of it like an adventure. You may want to run it from a DVD to see if the distro fits your style.

Lets Make Some Greeblies

I only know what one of these contraptions is and at this point I have know idea how I might use them. The miniatures were slapped together using bits of leftover plastics, mostly! I have wanted to get to this project for some time and all I needed was an excuse to get down to my shop. The greeble in the center is a miniature desalination unit, on the top is am industrial coil unit, and the greeble on the bottom is a type of distiller.

I have another greeble on my workbench waiting on some plastic putty. I will post this as soon as the piece is completed. Remember, you can never have too many greeble.

All I know was that I was unhappy with the last putty I used. So I did some searching and found this 10 Best Plastic Model Putties for Perfect Seamless Builds page.

Made my Own Small Parts Organzer

I was working on a project where I needed a set of small pieces of stock close at hand. I used four small portions of paper towel inner rolls. These were the more sturdy types found in indutrial settings. I cut them to size and glued them together and then glued them to a piece of stiff cardboard.

I have finished the project, but thought this organizer might be usefull for my smaller strips of plastic and wood. They may not be pretty but they are usefull.

Conpleting the 12' by 12' Pyramid Roofed Shack

It wasn't untill I had glued the four wwalls together that I fully understood just how off my geometry was on the roof panels. I got it worked out, but haven't had time to implment these changes,

It is ashame that I never got around to purchasing other mini-scenes from Sierra West. These kits are simple to build and will great once you have added paint and a weathering treatment. These mini scenes are components from their craftmen kits. The package includes wood strips for the tank stand and several resin detail pieces, all finely detailed.

I some how lost track of this photo. This set includes six 3D printed objects from Creepyhero Studios. I won't attempt to indentify any of these exhibits with any accuracy. However whatever its attended use I can repurpose it, I can make something new out of it, or I can break it up into smaller objects and add these parts on to larger componets.
