The S.L.U.G. Zombies Game, Version 1

Zombie Hunters

I have created a game for my S.L.U.G. Zombies. Here are the instructions for creating the game board and the game rules.

What you will need:

Game Board
2 dice
10 S.L.U.G. Zombies
2 Zombie Hunters

Game Board

  1. Start by drawing a 12 inch vertical line
  2. Measure down 6 inches and draw a 12 inch horizontal line
  3. Mark the following points on your vertical line (10, 8, 6, 4, and 2)
  4. Mark the top of the vertical line north and the bottom of this line south
  5. Mark the left and right horizontal lines accordingly
  6. Drawing a 6 inch line dividing each quarter and mark these points NE, SE, SW, and NW
  7. Starting at the 12 inch mark, draw a circle at each point (12, 10, 8, 6, 4, and 2)

Game Rules

  1. Place your two zombie hunters back to back within the 2 inch circle
  2. Place your zombies around evenly on the 12 inch circle
  3. Roll a die to see who will go first:
    1. If the zombies go first, they get to move one inch
    2. If the hunters go first they get to shoot at the zombies. One of the hunters has a double barreled gun and the other has a set of guns, so they get to roll 2 dice. The following dice rolls indicate the following:

Zombies from 12 to 6 inches:

1

Miss

2

Hit

3

Miss

4

Hit

5

Hit

6

Kill

A 1 will always indicates a miss and a 6 a kill. A 2, 4, or a 5 are hits. If a zombie is hit the zombie is moved over one point to the right and loses their ability to move on their next turn. Use some type of marker to indicate a hit.

Once the zombies get to the 6 inch mark the scoring changes:

1

Miss

2

Hit

3

Hit

4

Hit

5

Kill

6

Kill

With the exception of the additional chance for a kill it works just like it did above a 2, 3, or a 4 is a hit, the zombie is moved one point to the right and loses its next turn.

If and zombie makes it to the zombie hunters, that is to the 2 inch circle, the hunters get 1 last shot (1 dice). A 1 is a miss, a 2 is still a hit, and anything from a 3 to a 6 is a kill. If any zombie is still “a live” at this point, the hunters have become infected, the game is over.

Special Note: I suppose it is pretty obvious, but you will probably want to shoot at those zombies closest to you. Shoot at zombies in front of you. If all the remaining zombies are located on one side both of the zombie hunters can fire at these zombies, but not until then.

Zombitzz Zombies

I have acquired four more zombies for the museums’ Zombie collection and exhibits. The four zombies are cast from vinyl and were manufactured for Global Holdings, Inc. The Zombitzz zombies stand anywhere from 2.5 to 3.5 inches tall (at least from the sampling that I have). These four zombies are from series 1. There are twenty zombies in this series.

Every zombie has one “gruesome” feature in its skull. You may find ink stamps, erasers, or a super-ball, to name just a few. These figures are well detailed and painted. Whether it is still available or not I don’t know, but there is or was a Zombiezz app for some virtual fun.

Series 3 S.L.U.G. Zombies

S.L.U.G. stands for Scary Little Ugly Guys. There are, from what I gather, five sets in all. Series 1 through 4 can be had in 12 packs. The package shaped like a coffin contains 10 various zombies and 2 zombie hunters. The miniatures are about 2 inches tall. The zombies are molded in a bright green, while the zombie hunters are flesh colored.

The box contains the following figures:

Extra Crispy
Johnny Tow-Guns (hunter)
The Deadlifter
Squeamy Sashimi
Base Hit Bones
Louie Fingers
Singer Mortis
The Towering Terror
Double-Barrel Carol (hunter)
Tragic Magic
Jeet Kune Dead
Zero Hero

These are the first zombies that I have added to my collection. Through the support of a generous benefactor these and other zombies will be added to our newly built Zombie wing.

Zombies: Their Third Iteration-Two Sets of Four

These zombie miniatures come pre-painted and are a bit ragged and need of a spot of paint here and there. Although there are nine zombies in this collection, I was only able to acquire the eight you see here. All are made from some sort or hard dense plastic and with the exception of two; the miniatures are all close to 40mm tall.

Zombies 1

From left to right: Professor, 38mm ; Dude, 39mm; Granny 38mm; Doctor, 33mm

Zombies 2

From left to right: Mullet, 40mm; Thriller, 44mm; Cheerleader, 38mm; Clown, 37mm

Escape of the Dead- Yet another game of zombies

Escape of the Dead is another fine game from the folks of the Experimental Playground. The game includes three cards, with backs, eight miniature zombies, and a one page pocket mod with the game instructions. The art work on the game components is great.

The three cards represent the Lawn, Barricades, and the Garage. These cards represent three unique phases of the game. The object of this solo game is to fix your vehicle while defending yourself against hordes of zombies who are continuously trying to break into the garage.

Zombies at War

Package Art

Secret service agencies on both sides of the Atlantic and the German high command were working on zombie warriors as early as 39, but having experienced large segments of their own populations becoming zombie like through the use Gin and Opium the British high command ruled out the development of Zombie armies. However, the American industrial complex saw their way to making large profits from their development. Industry lobbyists quickly and effectively persuaded American elected officials, who apparently, did not have the same scruples as their counterparts across the pond, to pass a bill to allow them to develop two zombie battalions.

It is a battle to the second death. There are thirty five plastic soldiers in ten unique poses. These figures stand about two inches tall and come in US Army green and German grey. There is a surprising amount of detail on these dense plastic figures.

My Goals for 2016

For the New Year 2016, I will keep my list of goals to minimum.

Games, Game Rules, and Miniatures

I have already taken in two new games in which I will be making posts very soon. One of the games features Zombies. The game contains a set of paper zombies and defenders.

I need to create properties and characteristics to my Hobbit and the monster miniatures I am in the process of completing.

More Images

In the past I have been accused of not providing enough images with my posts. I would like to answer this complaint and provide more media, of all types, to my posts.

Pirate, Pulp, and Zombie Miniatures

Some of the game rules that I have obtained or plan to obtain make use of such characters. I do have a few Pulp figures, but would like to add rocket-men to my collection for I like the characteristics they may bring into game play. I would also like to take in some pirate and perhaps a few Wild/Weird West miniatures.

The Zombie game mentioned above is supplied with paper zombies and survivors that could be replaced with miniatures of the same type.

Supplies

I am in much need supplies, like a set of paint brushes and color ink for my Ink Jet Printer.

More Scenes

Take the miniatures I already have on hand and combine them into interesting scenes.

Toy Monsters

Start to collect a few small plastic toys as they make come available. I am especially interested in small monster toys.

New Post Idea-Create a Series

I have thought of running a series of posts on a particular topic or subject before, but haven’t been able to implement this in a fashion I am happy with. One topic would be covered exclusively over the course of a month. Material for the month would have to be completed a month in advance. That would mean a good 15 to 20 posts on one topic and would need to be ready to go before the start of the month or at least the majority of the months material would have to be ready to post.

I don’t know when I might get to implement a month long series, but I could conceivable sun short sets of series over the course of a few days or even a week. My first attempt will take place during the second week of January.

Zombies Verses Plants #2

We have been down this road once before. This another rendition of Zombies Verses Plants. And as far as I am concerned these are better looking constructs than the former.

A few more of these PVC miniatures.

Histrofigs 18mm Hero’s

Here are six 18mm unique zombie hunters. These like the remainder of the zombies will be used to replace a set of cardboard zombies that accompanied print and play board game. They should make the game more interesting.

Histrofigs 18mm Zombies

There are a few of this mix being used for a work in process, but there were 21 mixed 18mm zombies in this collection and I counted seven unique sculps within their ranks. I measured these up against a HO gauge figure and these 18mm miniatures can easily take the place of a 1/87 miniature. I never thought I would have

Dead Things Board Game

Screenshot of title page of game PDF

Dead Things is print and play mini-game preview by David Fitzgerald. All of the game components are included in a PDF and include a game board, twenty zombie and four survivor counters. There are two and half pages of set-up instructions, character properties, weapon hit-chart, Luck counters (these are used with special rules that are mentioned within the text), and rules to play the game.

The game scenario is as follows. You are leaving a mall and realize that the parking lot is crawling with Zombies. Your objective is to use the weapon you have at hand. A golf club, shovel, shotgun, and a pistol are employed to shoot or club your way to your car.

If your “Luck” runs out before you reach the car you are dead. If no humans reach the car alive, the zombies win the game and the world is lost.

The game board is a colorful and measures approximately 6 by 10 inches. To make the game a bit more life like zombie miniatures in 1/72 could be used as a substitute for the card counters.

Plants Verses Zombies Toy Miniatures

Packaging

I am not sure who originally marketed these miniatures, but I have a hunch that these five zombie and plant miniatures are not some of those. These are cheap Chinese copies. They are molded from what looks like PVC plastic. These figures stand approximately three inches tall and come with a verity of weaponry.

Four Very Intimating Zombies

There is a saw, hatched, sword and shield, and a pirate flag that fit into the zombie’s hands. In addition, there is one plant-pea-shooter and a bag of peas. There are yet two other accessories that I am having a hard time making heads or tails of. There is that yellow item (see package shot) and what looks like a door of some sort.

Recent Cell Ads

I haven't time to explore these films yet. I am always looking for new materials. I will need to look into these titles soon.

Do you remember the Thunderbirds? The Thunderbirds seem to be having some sort a revival. Here to get you started is an audio book.

"Jose Cuervo is the world's oldest and best-selling tequila, produced at the historic La Rojeña distillery in Jalisco, Mexico. This specimen is a beautiful decanter created for some production mills stone in production.

Plants verses zombies are miniatures manufactured with conflict in mind. They seem to be having a revival.

Bombshell Miniatures 20mm Doom Bunny

Who would have known that a Zombie had fallen and was lying with its mouth wide open at the top of your borrow. The Zombie instinctively chomped down on the bunnies’ ear when the rabbit stuck its ear out to catch sound of anything that might have been lurking about.

The bunny quickly withdrew its head further into the burrow. It looked horrified on its now nibbled ear and did its best to keep what had happened from the youngsters. The bunny stayed put the rest of the day nursing its young and its ear.

It wasn’t unit the next day that the bunny got out of its burrow to feed. It was not until nightfall that the bunny returned to its nest to find all of her young ones missing. There was plenty of blood and fur leading up to the nest. It was obvious that the Zombies had made another appearance. The bunny picked up the very first defensive instrument it found, but everyone knows the only defense against a Zombie is offence. The bunny has not let that axe out of her paws since.

Six Solo Print and Play Dungeon Crawl Games

The Last Case prints out on three 11" x  8.5" sheets of paper

To get you in the right frame of mind for the upcoming wonderfully ghoulish season here are six Dungeon Crawl Games you can play all by yourself; since no one wants to be with you any longer because of all of your mischievous eccentricities.

Adventure in My Pocket

“A powerful Djinnhave has brought darkness upon the world. You need to search through the darkness for Nightland and find the Djinn Relic. Carry the Relic into the light and cast it into the Sea of Dreams before the month is out.” The game includes 16 Darkness and Light tiles, 9 Field Note cards, and 1 Attack and Endurance statistics card.

Escape of the Dead

This is a pocket sized game that could also fit in an Altoids tin and comes complete with three cards with backs, and six paper Zombies. The art on the game components are fantastic and the rules are easy to understand so you can be playing within minutes.

Battle of Gimleys Mine

Although somehow I missed this games back-story, I have read the game rules through twice. This is a quick and very easy solo game where you chose to be the attacker, an army of skeletons that is being driven by their undead leader Roschild, that are out to kill all that live and work in the nearby town, farm, and mine or you can choose to be the defender and try to fight the demon energized skeletal hordes. The game uses a set of rules and up to three dice. This actually looks like it may be fun to play.  I have more to add about this game and will be giving a battle report as soon as I have completed playing either side of this solo game.

Tombs: The Sword of Valhalla

This is another one page solo dungeon crawl game and is a bit more complicated than the Battle of Gimleys Mine. The link will take you to a page where you can choose a low link (black and white) version or a color version. The graphics are wonderful in either version.  To save on my color toner, I printed my copy out in black and am very satisfied with the result. As the title alludes to you are looking for the prized Sword of Valhalla, but along the way you find other artifacts. This is another game I am looking forward to playing and will be making another post of this game.

1 Page Dungeon

I am at a loss here. Where do I get started? Anyone out their have any ideas?

The Last Case

In this game six investigators visit an old house in order to investigate a strange case. After they enter the house, they realize that the house is cursed and they can't go back. You have to fight against events like sudden death and fire that comes out of nowhere. To win you collect clues and stash them under the well. You will have to make a deal with the devil, but in the end, you will lose your life anyway.

Although the rules for his game are included on the three sheets of illustrations they are rather cryptic and sparse however, this game seems to be very intriguing.

Large List of Free RPG

The Darkshire site offers a very long alphabetical list of free RPG games. From Science Fiction, Fantasy, Cyberpunk, Horror, to Zombies. Most of these RPGs use dice based mechanics, but there are a few that use other means, such as cards.
