Puerto Borracho, an On30 Railway

When visting this page, please say hello to the thick hombres. This railway is in On30 narrow gauge, that is a O gauge railway that runs on HO gauge or 1/87 track. The scenery is of Mexico and is fabulous, as are the loco's and train cars.

There are also some shorter videos featuring other scenes of this model railroad.

Scratch Building Low-relief Canadian Industrial Buildings

It looks like the structures are being built in O-Scale. Scroll down to the bottum of the page and read your way to the top of the page. Interesting reading and there are plenty of images of the buildings being completed.

1/4 Scale Wooden Door

1/4 Scale Wooden Door

I built this door sometime ago. I had intended to use on a 1/4 scale wooden shack that I had planned to build.

I believe I used balsa strips, but it could have been basswood. I prefer balsa over basswood for it easy to distress, however it has been a while since creating this piece?

4-inch Bar Clamps

Although 6-inch clamps would probably be better for O-gauge work, these 4-inch clamps should do the trick for most of my HO gauge scratch building.

Signs, signs, everywhere a sign…

“Sign, sign, everywhere a sign
Blockin' out the scenery, breakin' my mind
Do this, don't do that, can't you read the sign?”

Five Man Electrical Band

I have collected these scale signs from a verity of sources. The back of kit boxes or sometimes the kit includes an insert sheet with signs. Others have come from product cartons and sales flyers; while others from suppliers of such. There are many different sized signs, most are better suited for 1/87, but many would work for 1/48.

Although it might not be evident, there are quite a few vintage signs in this mix, which I will need to feature in an upcoming post

O Gauge Horizontal Engine

Although this Horizontal Engine model, manufactured by Keystone Locomotive Works, is in ¼ scale it can and will be used on my HO gauge model train layout. Steam engines like this may have been found in the in the deep woods supplying power for a sawmill, or in industrial areas powering machinery in a knitting mill or supplying power for a pump at pumping station.

As you can see in the directions the kit is not too complex; two hours to construct and a perhaps a half hour to paint and detail. Not too sure where this detail piece will end-up on my layout yet, but I am sure an opportunity will present itself eventually.

New Products from Rusty Rail

Rusty Rail offers craftsmen kits and castings in HO and O gauges. Rusty Rails castings are very finely detailed and are cast in resin. The two new products being featured in the recent newsletter are displayed here: The Moonshine still in 1/48 and the cabin cruiser in 1/87. Rusty Rail offers many fine castings, scenes, and kits. You really have to visit the site to see for yourself.

A Chicken Coop in 1/48

I started my 1/87 chicken coop a couple of months ago. It sits unfinished on my workbench, with so many other projects in various stages of completion. I found this unique chicken coop complete. From the picture, you can see that the model was created using a real prototype as a guide.

Disney Pixar "Up" N-Gauge Miniature Carl’s House

Disney Pixar’s animated movie "Up" was the inspiration behind this n-gauge miniature. Carl's House was created from paper and according to the author took a few weekends to complete. It does amaze me the things you can create with paper. It is a shame that the template for this particular model is no longer available; however, there is a version of the model that comes with the balloons that can be downloaded here.

See the same model, but in 1/48 scale.
