A Medieval Village in N-gauge

The author used sheets of styrofoam for the base of his diorama.

Most of the miniatures for this n-gauge diorama were printed on a 3-d printer. The author used several different styles of medieval structures and mixed and matched the parts of these to create a verity of differnt structures.

The Song of Roland

Screen shot from Amazon

"The lord and King of France, Charles the Great
Has spent seven long years fighting Spain.
He has conquered the highlands and the plain.
Before him not a single fort remains,
No town or city wall for him to break,
But Saragossa, on a high mountain
Ruled by King Marsilly the Saracen.
He serves Mohamed, to Apollo prays,
But even there he never will be safe."

A Song Sung by a Man Waiting to Die

A lark, caught in the hunters net,
And sang sweater then than ever,
As is the falling melody
Might wing and net dissever?

At dusk the hunter took his prey,
The lark his freedom never
All birds and men are sure to die
But songs may live forever.

The song was sung to a maiden in Norman French, the language of the Lords.

Blackrock Castle

When I first read about this toy castle I was determined to find a copy. I was surprised that a set like this was available for the price of $1.00 (well 1.49). I don’t suppose that it is true to scale. It might work for Z scale or if you wanted to use it on a N-gauge layout I would suggest placing it toward the back of the layout. In either case I would leave the figures out, in that they are close to 1/72.

Flea Market Finds

While rummaging through several plastic bins at a Flea Market I was hoping to find some “Monsters in my Pocket” or M.U.S.C.L.E. specimens. I didn’t find either, but I did find these two blokes. They stand between 2.75 and 3 inches tall. Both of the figures came partially painted and have a fair amount of detail.

Viking with Battle Axe

The battle axe extends down to the axe head itself which terminates into a square block of plastic giving some bulk to this miniature.

Medieval or Viking Warrior

Although he is missing a pike or a spear, the battle implement can easily be fashioned from a piece of styrene.
