Escape of the Dead- Yet another game of zombies

Escape of the Dead is another fine game from the folks of the Experimental Playground. The game includes three cards, with backs, eight miniature zombies, and a one page pocket mod with the game instructions. The art work on the game components is great.

The three cards represent the Lawn, Barricades, and the Garage. These cards represent three unique phases of the game. The object of this solo game is to fix your vehicle while defending yourself against hordes of zombies who are continuously trying to break into the garage.

O My Lair, a Free Print and Play Dungeon Crawl Game

O My Lair is solo dungeon crawl game from the folks at Experimental Playground. This is another dungeon crawl game I have added to my list of dungeon crawl games. You are a dungeon master. You hear of a hero from one your subjects, which is said to be coming to depose of you. To protect your dominion from this upstart you will use all the resources you can conjure up, and the likes lizard man, golem, and the Cyclops. You and you cohorts will do whatever it takes to destroy this “hero” and keep a hold of your domain.

This game with larger counters actually looks like it will be fun to play. The game comes complete with a board, counters, and instructions on how to play.

I Have Been Seduced

I have been planning on purchasing a set miniature’s from Elhiem Figures. I have wanted to obtain miniatures for Experimental Playground’s Mutants and Machine-Guns’ RPG. However, recently I was seduced and I have lost all sense of propriety.

While visiting a page from a fellow blogger I came in contact with Bombshell Miniatures and it was love at first sight. For one who is always looking for something unique I found more than a few pieces here that are calling out to be purchased.

I recently made a post on my having received my first order from Splintered Light. These miniatures are in 20mm. I mentioned that I would probably not try to paint anything smaller than 20mm, but now I find myself ready to order a few pieces that are smaller than 20mm. It is their uniqueness that has me throwing restraint to the wind.

More to follow…

Blog News-New Labels

I have added two new labels to my ever growing list of identifiers. One new label is “Print and Play” and will used to identify print and play games. The games chosen for this category are those that are complete game systems. These games, as the label name implies, are printed out, usually using a color printer. Some of the games will require some assembly and the only thing that you may need to supply is a set of dice (some games even provide these). The games will probably be board game and RPG’s, but who is to say what I may find?
Another new label is “One person games”. This is a new topic that I have been searching for lately and have come-up with a few games that can be plated solo. Rocket Run, published by Experimental Playground, is a game that has the distinction of being both a print and play and a one person game.

Print and Play-Planet Run

I recently came across one of Experimental playground’s earlier posts for this year, a print and play game, Planet Run. Planet Run is comprised of a game board, game tokens, markers, and rules. The game itself will print on one sheet and the instructions on another.

To get yourself in the right frame of mind before attempting to play this game I recommend that you listen to this LibriVox recording (a MP3) of the Repairman. The MP3 runs for about 30 minutes and narrates a story about a futuristic repairman that needs to visit a plant inhabited by lizard like creatures to repair an ancient relay tower.

This is a one person dice driven game. The scheme of the game is as such. Your ship is hit by asteroids and you are forced to land to on a nearby planet to make repairs. While there you will need to explore the planet to find materials to fix your ship and food to keep yourself alive.

Mutants and Machine-Guns RGG, part 1

Experimental Playground offers many print and play board games. Their most recent game, “Mutants and Machine-guns“, a role playing game, caught my attention because of its format. Most of their games can be printed on a single A4 sized sheet of paper and are usually printed in black and white. This RPG, “a gonzo post-apocalyptic” adventure, is formatted to fit on a pocket-mod. Interesting concept and it looks like it will be rather entertaining!
