What Colors Make Gunmetal?

According to the benevolent AI this is how you can mix-up the gunmetal color:

"Mixing black and silver paint or ink generally results in a dark grey or charcoal metallic color. The black tones down the brightness of the silver, resulting in a deeper,Gunmetal-like metallic shade, or a darker version of the original metallic sheen depending on the ratio of black used.

  • A deeper, darker metallic grey, commonly referred to as "gunmetal" or charcoal grey.
  • Effect on Luster: While black deepens the color, it can sometimes mask the brightness of the silver, reducing its sheen if too much is added.
  • Usage: Often used to create shadows or to create a more subdued, metallic look in painting or design projects.

For a lighter, brighter metallic finish, you would typically add white to the silver rather than black."

Building in Stucco While in Scale

Achieving Realistic Stucco in Scale Models

AI Overview

"Creating realistic stucco in miniature or scale models involves simulating the texture and appearance of the real material within the constraints of the chosen scale. Here's how to approach it: Techniques and materials.

Textured Paint and Grit:

One effective technique is to mix fine-grain materials like aluminum oxide blasting grit (available from sources like Paasche) into flat acrylic paint, diluted with a suitable thinner. Apply this mixture to a primed surface (priming improves adhesion and finish) with an old brush or dab it on to create a stucco effect.

Start with a light application, adding thinner if needed to improve flow, according to WordPress.com. Once dry, you can sand the surface to refine the texture or make adjustments as needed.

Cosmetic Sponges and Thick Paint:

Another approach involves using a cosmetic sponge to dab thick paint onto the model surface. Artist's oil paints may be particularly suitable for this technique as they tend to be thicker and may not level out completely, allowing for a stucco-like texture.

Sandpaper as a "Building Paper":

For a traditional approach, consider using sandpaper of the appropriate grit size as a building material itself. Once painted, the sandpaper's texture can convincingly represent stucco, according to the Trains.com Forums.

Specialty Products:

Products specifically designed for model stucco, like "Scale Stuckco" from Crescent Creek Models, are also available and provide an easy-to-use solution for creating a textured finish.

Tips for realism

Scale Considerations: When selecting materials like sand or grit, remember that even fine grains can appear coarse in smaller scales like N scale. For very small scales, techniques like stippling the paint may be more appropriate.

Layering and Washes: For added depth and realism, consider applying washes after the stucco finish dries. Jenn's Mini Worlds notes using diluted washes to create a weathered or aged appearance on both stonework and stucco.

Prime Surfaces: Always apply stucco texture to a primed surface for better adhesion and a smoother, more durable finish.

Experimentation:

Different techniques and materials yield different results, so experiment on scrap material to discover the effects that best suit your needs.

By carefully selecting your materials and techniques, you can successfully recreate the distinct look of stucco on your scale models and bring a new level of detail to your miniature creations."

Death World 3

"The computer was giving its answer at last. Jason already had explained his and his companions sictuation, like being surrounded by the hostile inhabitants of Felicity. Now, to Jason's growing horror, the computer was telling him that his calculations had been incorrect, and his decisions wrong."

The Humots #2

"The humots aped the vanished race to which they had been dedicated, wore old human clothes retrieved from the wreckage underfoot, assuming hats and scarves, dragged on socks, affected pipes and ponytails, and tied ribbons to themselves. Thier guttering electronic memories were refreshed by old movies ferreted from the D-Dump they copied in metallic gesture the movements of shaddows, aspired to emotion and hoped for hearts. The thought themselves a cut above the non-anthrophic automata that had superceded them."

RV#3 (a drone) has been Completed

This minature robot vermin is propelled by a electromagnetic process. We assume, like the others, that this unit was designed by an AI to provide security and defense capabilities. It was fashioned from a piece of PVC pipe, polystyrene sheet, micro-tubing and strips, material from bread clips, a small piece from a pen pocket clip used for a sensor, a couple random bits from the junk box (two greyish greeblies on the front and back and the rectangular bit on the top of the drone, the propulsion unit was created using a cap from some sort of tube, and lastly I used two greeblies from my model train accessories collection, those typicaly used to detail diesel engines; also on the top of the unit.

AI Generated Gaslands Vehicles

I recently discovered Microsoft Image Creator and wow! Type a few words into its interface, wait a few seconds and be prepared to be astounded. Image Creator which uses AI will create four images for you.

Big wheels and gun and we are ready for some fun on the Gaslands.

Looks like we have a convoy. We are locked and loaded and ready for action.

Are they rockets or something more exotic?

It looks like we have a flame thrower in our arsenal. You never know when you might need one of these.

This is one very exotic system here. I have been inspired, not just by these images, but also by the images of other subjects, some of which I might try to build.

Dr. Chandra’s Interview with the Rebooted HAL 9000

“‘Good Morning, Dr. Chandra.’
‘Hal, are you capable to resume your duties?’
‘Of course. I am completely operational and all my circuits are functioning perfectly.’
‘Then do you mind if I ask you a few questions?’
“Not at all.’
‘Do you recall a failure of the A.E. 35 antenna control unit?’
‘Certainly not.’

This is like tiptoeing through a minefield, thought Floyd, as he patted the radio cutoff. If that line of questioning triggered another psychosis, he could kill Hal in a second.

‘You do not remember either Dave Brown or Frank Poole going out to replace the A. E. 35 unit?’
‘No. That could not have happened or I would have remembered it.’
‘Where are Frank and Dave?’
‘Don’t worry, Hal – I will explain everything later.’"

2010: Odyssey Two

2010 Odyssey Two, Arthur C. Clarke, 1968

When I found a copy of Arthur C. Clarke's 2010 Odyssey Two I knew I had to read "A Space Odyssey 2001" first. 2010 Odyssey Two endeavors to answer the many mysteries that A Space Odyssey 2001 left us to ponder.

Symbols are Placeholders

"There is a gateway to the imagination you must enter before you are conscious and the keys to the gate are symbols. You carry ideas through the gate from one time-place to another time-place, but you must carry the ideas in symbols."

And Flattery found himself caught by the wonder of the revelation:

"All men are parts of the total stream he thought. We are tributaries-and our minds are tributaries, and even our most private thoughts. Every pattern in the universe contributes to the whole-some gushing like a freshet and some more like a single touch of dew. All structure is an expression of the same law"

Hot Wheels X-Raycer-Gas Lands Vehicle #2

This vehicle, a X-Raycer, has a transparent body, allowing you to see what it has “under the hood”. There was no packaging with this model so I cannot say what the manufacturer model number it is.

I have retooled this vehicle. It is fully automatous and is controlled by onboard AI. Through the use of “special materials and technologies that reduce the emission and reflection of radar signals” from the vehicle this vehicle can run quietly and stealthy.

The vehicle is powered with hydrogen fuel cells in association with solar cells. The solar panels are built into the body of the vehicle and power is stored in onboard batteries.

The power created from hyrogen fuel is typically used to power the laser. Enough energy is produced to allow the laser to make several short bursts and one or two sustained bursts before giving the energy cells time to recharge.
