Another Door and Window Section is Nearing Completion

I do realize that this project is taking me an exceptionally long time to complete. This door needs a speck of paint on the door knob.

This Hot Wheels Mercedes 540K has seen Better days

This one of the three vehicles that had been found while I was digging a new spot for flowers and herbs. As you can see it is in bad shape. The axels are shot, it is missing a chrome raditor, and the roof.

This is the Mercedes 540K.1 First introduced in 1982 and outfitted with the wide white walled wheel set, she was "glamorous, sophisticated, and at one time quite popular".

What needs fixing. Both axils are shot and the white rimmed tires are no longer white. The whole chromed lights and raditor assembly is missing. Perhaps I should screen that area where the vehicles were found. Lastly, the body is riddled with spots of rust, with a few areas almost rusted through the paint and metal.

Although I might disessemble this model so that I can clean it more effectively I don't see myself restoring the piece. With two missing and unsourced parts, it is more trouble than its worth to me.

1"The Mercedes-Benz 540K (W29) is a prestigious grand tourer produced between 1936 and 1943, featuring a supercharged 5.4L straight-eight engine producing 180hp. Known for luxury and high-speed autobahn travel, it is famous for its elegant Sindelfingen coachwork, particularly the rare "Special Roadster," which can command prices over $10 million."

The Cottage is Under Construction

I have started the construction of this lovely Heljan cottage. Actually I have made some progress. The walls and windows are up, I decided to paint the home with three colors and as you can see the roof is suppose to be a terracotta. I am going to give this a couple dry brushings, in hope it might improve the appearecne/

There is a porch, chimney, and some trim that still needed to be added to the structure.

Previously: Needed a quick and economical cottage.

3 Lost Miniatures

Recently I was tidying up my paint station and I found these three miniatures in different phases of completion. Now that I have a new set of paint brushes and a lighted magnifier it should make it a bit eaiser to complete these.

And two more...

A Fez monkey and an old badger. With the exception of the thrid from the left in the first set of miniatures and the badger from the second set are all from Bombshell Miniatures.

Will's Sheds - To Complete a Scene

The two structures have been completed and all there is left to do is to add some details to complete the scene. You might have noticed the signs of the wall, Tim Speeks, Tinkerer, above the office sign. A tinkerer, in my view would have materials, parts, junk and parts, finished and unfinished projects all around. For this phase a three-sided pole barn will be added to the office side of the building. It will be crammed tight with materials and his gear. I can see his whole yard becoming full over time. Currently, I am working on a few DIY items for the addition.

A Quick Repair

I took a short break from my storage tank builds and have a Lynton & Barnstaple Railway boxcar from Nine Lines for a quick repair. There was a small gap on the body that needed bending where I use a bit of baking soda and a cyanoacrylate . Next step to give the body and roof a good base coat.,.

Project Trays & 3 HO Model Train Projects

I found this tray at a local discount stores. I purchased two of these and thought they might be a great thing for my current projects. All parts are visible and readily accessible.

From left to right: A brass box-cab locomotive under construction, four mini flats (see this post), and a miniature gondola kit, which was found amoung a collection of HO gauge detail parts.

Three HOn30 Mine Cars

Recently, I opened a reference book and found this insert within its pages, it was marking the page I was looking for, but I don't see myself using this instruction sheet as a book mark. I am thinking that I had stuck it in there to flatten it. At any rate, that got me thinking about the other "mine" equipment I had and happened to know where to find it.

The model depicts a Kanawha Mine car, the prototype of one built by the Kanawha Manufacturing Company of Charleston, West Virginia designed haul upto 2 tons of coal.

Having a small narrow gauge model railroad and since it is a narrow gauge the cars are small anyway.I only run small trains with up to six cars, mostly small ones. For normal sized card I usually run three or four cars.

The question arises, will they track well? I will have to build one and see.

The Beekeepers Shack is Being Put on Hold

I have completed the layout drawing for the beekeeper shack. The back side will be the same as the front, with the exception of the porch. I am working on a template for the two side windows.

After comppleting the last shack I had leftover material that I wanted to make use of, so I have put the Beekeepers shack on hold.

My Favorite Bending, Cutting, and Measuring Tool

This is one of my favorite tools when working on "small" projects. Although it doesn't have a cutting edge, it does help in getting a straight cut. I just make sure that one edge of the triangle is perpendicular to the bottom edge while another to the edge being cut.

I am cutting four foot squares out cardstock strips for another structuure for the village. Recently I made use this triangle when bending some cardstock pieces. It worked very well on those small angles of carstock needing a bend.

Keeping it Covered - Two Roofs

I got this covered

Although you cannot tell by looking at the picture this 8 by 10.5 foot (1/87) scale roof is painted grey with a bit of rust and was created for a small shack. Where the shack is, if I even built one, is anyone's guess. I will just have to build a new one. The shack, the future home of Jack the beekeeper, will measure 12 by 12 scale feet. And of course with an addition of the covered 8 by 10.5' porch. The structure will be built from wood. I haven't decided on the roof type yet.

This one is my rendition of a rubber roof for my building in stucco. I am trying for a barrel roof here and it has not been without some experimention. I am not happy with how the current version and want to exstend the sides another six inches.

Added Another Special Book to my Collection

Making a Giant Metal Tome!

You all know how much I like to read and how facinated with the mention of fictional titles within the story. I call these special books. This video is from Nerd Forge where the authors are using metal for the front and back covers and their bookbinding skills to create one heavy book. Now, I would say that is one special book. They have created other special books as well.

Camping Gear

Chouinard Expedition Sewing Kit

I found this sewig kit at the bottom of a side pouch on an old backpack and I a afraid that most of the contents are looking rather sad with mildew and rust. About the only item that wasn't in bad shape was the needle vise.

The kit included two heavy duty sewing needles, the pinvise, a few strieght pins, a couple short pieces of heavy duty waxed threading material, a cotter pin, used to fish a draw string back into a jacket, and cellaphane bag with a button. There are also printed instructions on how to use the contents of this package for various tasks.

The needles and cotter pin are encrusted in rust and will be replaced. Although the pouch doesn't look to bad it could use some cleaning, and then have leather conditioner applied to its surface.
