Proxie Models Ruined Building Assembled and Painted

It is nice to have something to post, even when I had hoped to have gotten further with my cleaner bot and although I did cut several strips for my windows, I never got to build one. Perhaps next month I will having something to post on these projects.

View 1, Proxie Models, painted and weathered. They are marketed as 15 to 20mm Ruined Buildings.

View 2, Proxie Model Ruined Building. They were very easy to build and I had fun painting and weathering them. They will make great scenery pieces.

Shed at Creek

This page depicts new additions to Marcel Ackle's layout, or at least what I believe is Ackle's model train layout. The shed and small bridge were my main focus, however Ackle models terrain with just as much enthusiasm.

Railroad Crossing Signs and Others

I found these signs on a the back of an old Con Core model railroad kits.

Here are a few of those signs. The poles are from Blair Line Signs:

The railroad crossing signs were the most challenging to cut out and I didn't have the best of luck with all of them. The ones I had the most trouble with were distressed and weathered to represent wear and tear and a bit of abuse.

These signs were typically made from metal and unless kept up with would start to deteriate as these seem to be.

I added these two stop signs to keep my model people safe.

Here a sample sign the nice people at Blair Line laid on me. Since I do have a few horse and carriages I might want to make use of this one.

Typical Installtion as indicated on the back of extra polls from Blair Line Signs.

Refinery Equipment in Miniature

It has been some while since I made any posts on storage tanks. The author has created some refinery euipment in miniature using styrene and some randum bits. Although the scale is not mentioned I did find this link when searching for 6mm. Whatever its scale (size) the stucture is small and looks like a functional terrain piece.

Machine City

“Banished from humanity, The Machines sought refuge in their own promised land. They settled in the cradle of human civilization, and thus a new nation was born; a place the Machines could call home, a place they could raise their descendants, and they christened the nation 'Zero-One'.”

Machine City or Synthient City was the home to the machines in the world of the Matrix.

Wood Boulders

I was walking down the trail the other day and I heard a wood pecker pecking at a tree. Once I got a bit closer I noticed that there were these bits of wood covering a bit of the trail. I got down and examined the bits and thought these bits might work well as wood debris of some sort, but after studying them for a time I realized they might make some very convincing boulders, that is after a little application of paint and a good wash.

Miscellaneous Materials for Scale Modeling

The Spruce Crafts site has a page that describes different materials that can be used for modeling scales models. I have either heard or used most of the materials described on the page, however there is one product I have never heard of and another, although I have heard of it I never really gave it too much thought.

After reading the article two types of materials stuck out to me: Taskboard and Creative Paperclay, both sound like they might be fun to experiment with. I could use either for fashioning structures or terrain.

  1. Taskboard:taskboardis a lightweight board made from non-aligned wood fibers that can be fashioned into 3d shapes just by adding water. The only draw back to taskboard is its cost. It will cost me $20 for 2- 1/32 x 10 x 20" sheets.
  2. Creative Paperclay: a 8oz brick will cost me around $10. Paperclay has the conistancy of fine clay. The benefits of using Paperclay is that it can re-wetted faster than clay and there is less cracking or warping with Paperclay.
    1. I don't know about its yield so I cannot do a proper cost analysis between the two products, however I am guessing I might get better yield from taskboard.

It is in the Details-a Study

When it comes to the fine details of our model railroads I have come to realize how important it is to focus on one scene at a time. Our layouts should be a series of scenes, each scene telling a story. One way to accomplish this is to focus in on the details that are all around us. Take notes or least take a mental note of those scenes that stand out to you.

It is like sudying a picture in art gallery, you really cannot fully appreciate a work of art until you have fully studyed the subject. Take a look at the first two images on this page and give them a carefull study. Take note of all the details of each scene. List all the details, especially on the first image. And then take note how they all fit into the larger picture.

A Visit to George Selios Franklin and South Manchester Model Railroad

The Franklin and South Manchester model railroad by George Selios is one of those model railroads that all of us aspire to duplicate. Well at least in its details. This is the mother of all model railroads and a wunder to every model railroader.

Post-Apocalyptic 1/72 Chernobyl Diorama

The author puts a lot of work into this diorama. The military vehicle is plastic kit, but the structure is scratch built. I was amazed while I watched the author add details after details to this diorama. Watching this video was a truly rewarding experience.
