Game Rules for my 1/285 Amour Miniatures

Now that I have a couple of sets of micro-amour units I am looking for a set of game rules to use in a World War Two amour skirmish game. On one hand, I am looking for a set of rules with enough options and scenarios to make the game interesting. On the other hand I don’t want the rules to be too complex.

The rules should work well with two players, but also should allow other players to play. Recently I found the following sets of rules and am reading through these rules to find the set of rules that seems to fit my criteria. More about the set of rules I have chosen will follow…

Five Sherman’s 1/285 Miniatures

The Sherman, a US medium tank, was the most common American tank in World War II. The Sherman proved itself somewhat effective against German Mk II and Mk IV Panzers, but was thoroughly outclassed by the Tiger, Panther and King Tiger tanks.

Although the Sherman might not have been the best tank on the battle field it held its superiority in the number units that were produced. The Sherman was mass produced by the Ford Motor Company. More than 49,234 Sherman’s were produced between 1942 and 1945.

The Sherman was used in all combat theaters and by many allied nations; United States, Great Britain, the Free French, China and even the Soviet Union used the Sherman

These 1/285 Sherman miniature will be used along with Panzers I recently made a post on in a skirmish game of some sort. More will follow…

Five PzKpfw III H 1/285 Miniatures

The PzKpfw-III was a medium tank manufactured by the Germany before and during the World War II. Germany built 5774 during the years 1937-43. The PzKpfw made up the bulk of Germany’s armored forces.
The tanks were delivered in two parts, the body and their turrets. The tanks turrets fit inside a rounded indentation in the body and can swivel.
I don’t know how close or far I am from having my C in C, G-18, PZKW III H battle tanks painted in authentic colors, but they are fine for my purpose. I will using these miniatures along with the set of US Sherman’s to play a skirmish game. Once I have acquired enough of these miniatures I can use them in a full blown war game.

Projects for June

Although I am rather free with my posts I am rather slow in getting my projects completed, I keep on purchasing new items, which of course adds to my “to-do” list. However, unless I plan, nothing gets accomplished. Here goes:

  1. Finish painting 1/285 WWII German Panzer tanks
  2. Paint 1/285 WWII American Sherman tanks
  3. Assemble and paint at least one 28mm Persian miniature
  4. Assemble and paint the Games Workshop 28mm Wolf miniature

These projects may be completed in any order, as the mood strikes.

The list is small and by rights I should be able to accomplish these tasks within the month of June. Well let’s hope so.

Order from C in C

My order from C in C is finely on its way. I have been waiting rather impatiently, at this point, for this order. In addition to the 1/4800 Kriegsmarine, Royal Navy WWII ships, I also ordered a set of German 1/285 Panzers and American Sherman tanks. I made a post on this topic way back in September of last year.

I never received that order. It seems that the address listed on a mail order form was incorrect, C in C had moved, but the address listed on the form had not been updated. So I have tried again and now look forward to painting all of these miniatures and putting them to good use.

3 Game Rule Booklets I have added to my Reading List

Two of the three resources are rules created to use with your 1/285 scale miniatures, while the other are rules to Wizards of the Coast’s Axis and Allies Guadalcanal, a game I am completing on purchasing.

Battalion Commander offers optional rules for battalion-sized battles using Axis & Allies rules and 1/285 micro armor.

Axis and Allies Guadalcanal is one of the many variants of Axis and Allies produced by Wizards of the Coast. Axis and Allies Guadalcanal is a game for two players and depicts the very decisive land and sea battle for Guadalcanal between the Japanese and the United States.

The Wehrmacht '47-Supplement to Micro Armour adds various experimental projects, such as German E series vehicles. The supplement offers weapons tables, and 10 additional scenarios to be used with your 1/285 miniatures.

GEV Rules for WWII Micro-Armor

In my last post I mentioned having found a set of rules to use with 1/285 scale miniatures. GEV-WWII can be downloaded as a zip file. Once extracted you will find three files, a Gev_wwii.gif-a set of game tokens, Gev_wwii.htm-a page that includes basic rules for the game, and a Gev_wwii.xls, a three work sheet workbook that contain some more introductory notes, and an infantry and vehicle offence, defense points, movement and abilities stats for each type of unit.  For a quick start, the rules look simple enough, but not too simple as to make the game boring and uninteresting.

1/285 Skirmish Miniatures

I ordered several sets of C in C’s 1/285 miniatures the other day. I had, as I had mentioned in a recent post wanted to create a diorama using these miniatures. I originally wanted to order a set of WWII Sherman’s and a set of WWII infantry for the diorama and had planned on ordering a set of 1/4800 British WWII ships, but after giving the purchases some thought I have decided to add a set of German WWII Panzers to the mix.

Recently, I came across a site the offers dozens of freegame rules. On the site, I found GEV-WWII a game intended for 1/285 and 1/300 miniatures. It might work as a basis for a two person skirmish game where I could put my Sherman and Panzers miniatures to use. I will keep you up to date of the latest developments of the game…

Micro Diorama and US Army Organizational Units

I am planning on creating a diorama to display a collection of C in C 1/285 infantry and several armored units and wanting to create a realistic display. I wanted an idea of how a real Army is organized. I came across the Operational Unit Diagrams on the US Army’s site that I will be useful for my purposes. Click on the organizational units to display a description of each organizational unit(you must have Flash enabled). With the amount of infantry units I am planning on using my diorama will display a platoon worth of infantry.

1/285 Scale Terrain (DIR)

I never really thought too much about this scale, until I started looking for supplement parts for my Axis and Allies 1941 game. However, during the search for supplement parts I came across this directory of suppliers of 1/285 terrain manufactures and I thought I would pass it along to my readers. Perhaps someone might find the resource useful?

Two More Sources for Axis and Allies Supplement Parts

In my research, I have found that 1/285 scales seems to the size that is just about right for supplementing the Axis and Allies game pieces. Although I must admit that going this route might be very expansive, for those of us who want more detail and durability for their game pieces, the next two providers supply miniatures that fit both of those criteria.

GHQ

GHQ is often quoted as being the supplier of the most highly detailed miniatures in the industry. GHQ offers a full line on WWII military armor, and aircraft. If you are looking for rules they also provide rules for several games that make use of their miniatures.

C in C

C in C is another supplier of micro armor. C in C’s prices are better, but although the detail is there, C in C is reported to use a softer metal than GHQ. However, that being said, C in C provides an extensive line of 1/285 scale WWII armor, aircraft, and figures.
