The Cottage is Under Construction

I have started the construction of this lovely Heljan cottage. Actually I have made some progress. The walls and windows are up, I decided to paint the home with three colors and as you can see the roof is suppose to be a terracotta. I am going to give this a couple dry brushings, in hope it might improve the appearecne/

There is a porch, chimney, and some trim that still needed to be added to the structure.

Previously: Needed a quick and economical cottage.

Inspiration for Future Construction

This structure looks more like a small boat or perhaps a small spaceship. I believe the screenshot is from Alien: Romulus. If so than it would be a small space craft. If I would build this craft I would need more shots of the craft. It might be fun to attempt.

The image is from "The Book of Ell" one of the many small structures people find themeselves living in, in this dystopic tale. This would be an easy one.

This is where I got the idea for the Stuko Structure with a Rubber Roof. Although I don't believe this structure is clad in Stuko, it looks more like a metal build.

How Layers Bring Card Models to Life

This is a grand project and I salute the author for his persistence and patience. As you can imagine a project like this takes a committment. If you visit his site you will notice that this structure isn't his first.

Super Tiny Model House

This author used some of the same techniques in his structure, but in a much smaller scale. Both of these models are exquisite and very inspiring.

The OLD MILL - Building my first MDF kit

Although it may be the authors first MDF kit, the Old Mill, it is not his first time at modeling. He uses a time-lapsed scenes when building the model. The authors brings years of experience and tons of advice on how to make this model even better. It was a delightful to watch.

Scratch Building a Watermill in 1/35 Scale

I suppose one scale is just as good as another when scratch building. At 8.709mm equaling one foot, it will give you ample opportunity for details.

Materials – Mat-board Odds and Ends

Over the past couple of months I have collected these bits of mat-board. I thought they might work well for a structures sub-walls. Measuring 2/16th inch thick the material is sturdy and is not all that difficult to cut. And unlike most card stock it files very nicely.

Cardstock Flooring

I don't remember the exact treatment this piece of cardstock recieved or its intended purpose. I do remember scoring boards and using a light color for the base, followed with what looks like a couple of dry-brushings with darker colors. With a height of just six feet I am guesing I was planning on useing with element for interor flooring. By using sturdyer cardstock you could also use this technique to create a wooden fence.

It Caught my Eye - I am Inspired

From a recent browse on Pinterest, this structure cuaght my eye. Apparently this structure resides somewhere in an urban environment. With its extreme ramsackal appearence I thought it might be fun to build someday. I wonder if I would have enough material on hand?

Scratch Building Low-relief Canadian Industrial Buildings

It looks like the structures are being built in O-Scale. Scroll down to the bottum of the page and read your way to the top of the page. Interesting reading and there are plenty of images of the buildings being completed.

Period German Steam Engines

I believe that these steam engines are of German design. I found this and the following in Babylon Berlin. Not a bad depiction of a period train station, as well.

As found on Babylon Berlin.

Shed at Creek

This page depicts new additions to Marcel Ackle's layout, or at least what I believe is Ackle's model train layout. The shed and small bridge were my main focus, however Ackle models terrain with just as much enthusiasm.

A Swamp Hut for Inspiration

You really have to see this structure. It is so full of character and texture. The structure is a inspirational piece. One that I might have to mimic someday.

Metropolis a Glimpse into the Future

Metropolis is a 1927 German expressionist science-fiction film about Metropolis a futuristic themed city. The city and its society is dystopian where the workers serve the rich by keeping the city and its industries running. The elites live above gound and in luxury, while the working class live in drudgery under ground and are not able to enjoy the luxury goods they toil to produce.

Privies for the Populous

The shack is built from Balsa, cardstock, corrugated material, and foamcore. The privey was built in 1/64 scale for a Gaslands project.

Another view. I do like working with Balsa. Balsa is easy to distress and made to look like it has seen better days.

This structure is from Woodland Scenics and is cast from white metal. This kit one of the three potties that I made a post on sometime ago.

Oops. I didn't realize there was someone inside.

Another Inspirational Structure - This one might actually get built

Some time ago I published The Shacks of Rowland Emett. It was ment as an ispirational piece for myself. If I had built any of the featured structures you would have heard about.

Here is another inspirational structure. I took the screenshot from the movie entitled Luna. The movie started off with a short animation. I will not say too much about the movie, but it was very good.

I did some brain storming and came up with a short list of materials. Some of it I already have on hand. The rest will need to be taken in for the project.

  • Foam Insolation
  • Card Stock
  • Sculpey or cellu clay
  • 3mm brass wire
  • Solder

Scratch building a Shed

I just came upon this article on scratch building a shed in S-scale. The shed is built primarly from styrene sheet and strips. It is painted and then weathered expertly. Looks like a great little project.

Making Miniature Papercraft Architecture!

I am glad I had a "Micro" label for this post. Otherwise I would have had to create one. These miniature structures look like they will be fun to build, even though they are so very small. You will find links to the card stock models and the tools mentioned under the video on YouTude.

Refinery Equipment in Miniature

It has been some while since I made any posts on storage tanks. The author has created some refinery euipment in miniature using styrene and some randum bits. Although the scale is not mentioned I did find this link when searching for 6mm. Whatever its scale (size) the stucture is small and looks like a functional terrain piece.
