I do realize that this project is taking me an exceptionally long time to complete. This door needs a speck of paint on the door knob.
This blog is mainly a place where I can record my current interests. It is also a place where I can showcase my current projects, obtain inspiration, keep track of suppliers, and the many other little things that make-up who I am and what I am presently about.

Pyramid Roofed Structure - Roof Panel Sections
Hear are the four triangles that will make-up the pyramid roof. The roof panels measure 13.5 foot wide by six foot tall. I am not all that happy with how the paint job ended up. I will try a couple little tricks in order to make the roof look a little better.

Primed and Trim being Added
Once the baords have been added I primed each section with tan hobby paint.
Once the paint was dry I added the trim around the windows and doors.

Laying Randum Width Boards on the Subwalls
I used 3 by 5 file cards for the boards and cut them from 3 to 14 inches wide. I used a file card to add wood grain and a hobby knife to add a few knots. I need to go back clean up some of the window opening.

The Wall Sections are Being Cut
I have started to cut out the door and windows openings for these sections. Since I didn't cut the roof sections to the correct width I will need to re-layout the triangle sections again.

The March Challenge
For March's challenge I was to build four scale structures from materials I have on hand. I mainly wanted to make use the thin balsa boards I had recently aquired. I also want to build two structures primarily from card stock. I am making this post with the two structures that I have completed and although I still have ten days to complete the other two I wanted to make sure this post was posted in March.(This will be my last post for March).
Below. Two of the four structures from the March challenge.
This is outhouse and measures 4 by 5 scale feet in HO scale. The shed is constructed primarily from 1.5mmm thick balsa sheet. The roof was constructed from card stock and top sheet of corrugated cardboard. The foundation was created from several pieces of match sticks that have been glued to the bottom of the stucture. The out building was painted with a series of darker colors and then weathered with swathes of paints and washes.
I have started to experiment with using a wood burning iron to 'score' individual boards. I haven't came to any conclustions yet. The second structure a storage or tool shed is created from that same sheet of balsa I used above and measures a square nine scale feet. The windows are from my scratch box. The foundation was made by glueing bits of leftover paper rock textured material on pieces of matboard and the roof of a thick black construction paper cut into strips to represent tarpaper. I didn't mention it but a set of steps were created for each of these two structures.

Shed Needs a Repair
You might have wondered about the progress of these three sheds. I had added a couple details to this shed and accidently broke them off. About this time I had started a small project of four small sheds, which I will be making a post once they have been completed. Once I have completed the second of these sheds I will glue the details back on to the structure and make a repost of the completed project.

3 Model Power Sheds are Coming Along
Although they are easy to build I have had some fun building the three of these sheds. There is a fair bit of extra details that have been added to the kit, not to mention the details that have moulded into the structures themselves. This is where most of my excitement is coming from. Noticeing the details and then deciding on the correct colors to paint them.
This small shack’s only distinguishing feature are the wood slats used to create the door and the hardware used to connect the door it the door frame.
It may be simple designed but it has a bit of its own charm.
This shed includes several separate and molded on details. The door is unique in its design and the included windows are thin and well molded The structure includes what I assume is some sort of electrical box in which I added two pipes down to the ground. I used a .5mm rod for these. Under the front overhang there is a small electrical box and what I presume are two indicator lights. These lights, a green and red light, alternate when a message is in bound and during transmission.
I am not all that happy with the shingled roof. Perhaps I should plant a tree and let it overhang the roof a little.
This is the larger shed of the three and offers the most in the way of details. First you might have noticed that the door is rather unique in its construction. It has three windows at the top. There is also a number block identifying the building as being number 93. I need to touch up this up with another touch of paint.
The over details can be found on the sprue that accompny the kit. The partcial sprue below is one example. It includes a stove pipe, shudders, and other parts for the window.

Three Model Power Sheds
"You can never have too many small structures on a model train layout"; well we are going to test that one out. I found this kit on ebay and for a good price.I am looking forward to seeing just how much weathering and aging I can do to these sheds and shacks. If the illustratios can be trusted there seems to be a few details I am looking forward to seeing.
Three Structures and their Details
Although all of the structures are of board and batten construction they feature different types of roofs and there are two stove pipes included.
Although the three sheds are all small they come in three sizes.
There are many details like two set of fense, a turn-stile and another item that I am not quite sure what it is. Perhaps it will make a little more sence once I have built the item.
All in all I am am happy with the three structures. I only have a place for one of the structures so far, but these shacks will all have a place eventually.

I Used Leftovers - to Build a HO Scale Shed
I am often challenged when I see a pile of left-overs from previous modeling sessions. I use the following materials to build this shed: 1mm grey cardstock measuring approximately 4.5 X 4.25 by 7' scale feet, matt-board, small bits of corrugated material, 8 pieces of small sticks for strengthening the interor, and several passes from a dry brush.
It is not one of my better attempts, but it will work stuck behind some structure away from the front of the layout.

Prototype?
I found this template or is it a prototype? I am not sure what type of material I want to use. I could use some of the scribed board here. The width of this piece is a scale ten feet in HO. I dug up three matching windows and I will construct a door for the structure. I have multiple options for roof material.

Home and Shed Completed
This the project I started back at the end of August and made a post at the beginning of September. This is the new home for Terence and Percy. Percy hinted about a shed for his projects so a small one was built for him.
They really wanted a home of their own so one was thrown up using the materials we had in hand. It is not too pretty, but it is dry and will be warm once they start using the wood stove. Although there is little bit of wood in its construction it is mostly built from cardstock.
I really wanted to make use of those odds and ends I have laying around and in my "junk" boxes. As you will notice I used a piece of scrapbooking paper for the wall. Lastly, I used a leftover piece of embossed brick paper for the rear wall.
Terence and Percy's Shed
The shed is made up of two layers of material. A cardstock sub-wall and another piece of that scrapbooking paper. The panel door is made up of cardstock sub and the actual panels were fashioned from a thinner piece of cardstock which I painstakenly scored and cut out from the panel layer cardstock.
The sub-roof is made from cardstock and I used a piece of paper napkin from my materials collection to represent asphalt shingles.

The Beekeepers Shack is Being Put on Hold
I have completed the layout drawing for the beekeeper shack. The back side will be the same as the front, with the exception of the porch. I am working on a template for the two side windows.
After comppleting the last shack I had leftover material that I wanted to make use of, so I have put the Beekeepers shack on hold.

The Rush to House the Villagers
Terence and Percy's Home (Hobo Shack #2).
Simple construction: wood sticks, random bits of paper, amd a small piece of embossed brick sheet. That is as far as I have gotten.

Huntington's Pad
Here is the first of three or four "hobo" shacks for the Village. It is made made from bits and pieces from my scraps collections, namely my paper, wood, aluminum, foam-core, and mat board collections. It is a grand thing to see these leftovers being utilized.

Some Progress being Made
Particle plan of structure. Missing is the part of the stone foundation that has been formed out of foamcore.
Also on my workbench is another structure for the Village. It is receiving panels on top of its storm pipe core.

Keeping it Covered - Two Roofs
I got this covered
Although you cannot tell by looking at the picture this 8 by 10.5 foot (1/87) scale roof is painted grey with a bit of rust and was created for a small shack. Where the shack is, if I even built one, is anyone's guess. I will just have to build a new one. The shack, the future home of Jack the beekeeper, will measure 12 by 12 scale feet. And of course with an addition of the covered 8 by 10.5' porch. The structure will be built from wood. I haven't decided on the roof type yet.
This one is my rendition of a rubber roof for my building in stucco. I am trying for a barrel roof here and it has not been without some experimention. I am not happy with how the current version and want to exstend the sides another six inches.

Two for the Village
AI created images of "Shacks and Sheds"
The AI generated images of these building were the main inspiration for this project. I am building a village in 1/87 scale one structure at a time.
I used some scrap foam-core bits for the sub-walls and embossed stone paper for the exterior walls. I am looking for more of this material.
I built this structure as an one had been abandoned. I will be adding some foliage, weeds, a tree, and creepers to its exterior.
This shed was built from cardstock, with cardstock sub-walls and individual cardstock boards.
There are two more of these structures on my bench right now. I am experimenting other styles of structures.

The Swamp Shack Nears Completion
The swamp shack sits atop of its new deck. The deck I had originaly created was much too small for the hut. The shack needs some pilings and a couple of columns under the overhang of the porch. It has taken me a long time to complete this structure.
