Robot 2 has been Completed

Although the robot needs some touch-ups with some metalic paint it is complete. The tracks and arms are leftovers from two robot kits I built. The rest of robot is scratch built using sqaure tube and leftover bits of polystyrene.

The robot is not built to scale, but stands approximwntly 40mm tall. I found layering the parts and rounding the corners add to the appearence of the model. The inner part of the head was fashioned from a recycled piece of razor handle and a couple pieces of styrene.

The device ob the robot back is a greeble that I found on Etsy. I might go back and add a few more details here and there.

Robot Capsule Toy

Here is another capsule toy that I recently acquired. One of my long standing goals is to keep my eyes open for interesting capsule toys.

My robot was assembled from five unique parts. The plastic parts were snapped together and did not require glue.

The assembled model stands 40mm tall and is ready for action.

Wizards of the Coast Bugbear

Bugbears stand seven feet tall, have fur and are said to be related to goblins and hobgoblins. This specimen, made of a hard dense plastic, stands 40mm from the bottom of its base to the top of his head. The miniature has the following inscriptions inscribed on the bottom of its base. “Bugbear, 21/45, 2015 Wizards”.

The Wrath of Ashardalon Grell

The Grell is made from a dense plastic and stands approximately 40mm tall. “Grell are usually found underground and are particularly dangerous and vicious.” Although by its looks alone the Grell would make most, except those with the stoutest hearts faint from fear the Grell has, what looks like a bird beak and adding to their horror, they move along by levitating.

Their olive-colored bodies which are about human size carry a set of tentacles with small spines that inject paralyzing venom into their victims. The Grell miniature is another creature from Wizards of the Coasts, Wrath of Ashardalon board game.

40mm Miniatures

With the addition of a HistoriFigs, F-3, Hero, chain mail and with a long sword, 40mm figure to my collection I thought that I would look into this sized figure. The larger the sized figure, typically the better the detail of the figure. You also have more to hold onto when painting. You can also count on paying more for larger figures, if they are in metal, that is. It does seem that plastic figures are more economical than their metal counterparts. However, although plastic figures have and continue to get better in detail, metal figures usually have better detail than their plastic counterparts.

There are a few suppliers of 40mm miniatures. The A Beginner's Guide to Gaming in 40mm mentions several suppliers of 40mm miniatures. 40mm miniatures will cost you anywhere from $5.00 to $15 U.S.

HistroFigs offers several American Civil War miniatures in 40mm. These will cost you $2.25 per piece, while bags of 6 or 12 figures can be had at discounted prices.

Another source of 40mm miniatures is Knuckleduster, which offers some unique Wild West figures, among others. These look like highly detailed figures. These sell for $12 for a set of three.

By the way, Knuckleduster, maintains a blog that will keep you up to date on their line of products.
