The Munk a Blind Guide

“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites 24 You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel.

“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence.

“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean.

“You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell?

Woes on the Teachers of the Law and the Pharisees, Matthew 23

This is one of histrofigs 25mm miniatues from their Blasted Planets Special Figures line. I finally got some paint on it. I reviewed a few of these miniatures back here and here.

Histrofigs 18mm Hero’s

Here are six 18mm unique zombie hunters. These like the remainder of the zombies will be used to replace a set of cardboard zombies that accompanied print and play board game. They should make the game more interesting.

Histrofigs 18mm Zombies

There are a few of this mix being used for a work in process, but there were 21 mixed 18mm zombies in this collection and I counted seven unique sculps within their ranks. I measured these up against a HO gauge figure and these 18mm miniatures can easily take the place of a 1/87 miniature. I never thought I would have

This creature is very large and strong. It can easily knock or push large and heavy objects out of its way.

It has claws and with its strength could easily disfigure its prey with one sweep of its paw. It also has a set to teeth that can be used tear and chew.

Other Characteristics:

Those with a sensitive sense of smell might smell this creature before you hear or see it. People often associate its odor to one of an un-bathed dog.

Properties for Histrofigs Beast #1

Intelligence:

0

Dexterity:

1

Movement:

1 (only during nights of a full moon during the spring and summer)

Stealth

This beast is not all that stealth-full in itself as you might hear its shuffle across weeds and twigs as it glides to a desirable location.

Method of
attack:

If you get close enough to the Venus fly trap located on its one branch you might lose a mouthful of flesh.

It can also send out suckers to hopefully entwine its victims. Never lay a bed roll out anywhere near this creature for it is sure to entangle you while you sleep and you draw you back to itself. You will waken to find yourself hopelessly entangled and held tightly.

Once it has you totally entangled to itself it is slow and tortuous process as the its vines and creepers start to constrict on all points that you have become entwined. Eventually you will become one with this vegetable creature.

Histroifig Classic Fantasy Figures a Trip Down Memory Lane

Histroifig Classic Fantasy Figures are the same miniatures that were once cast by Jack Scruby back in the seventies. At the time Scruby miniatures were the only alternative to the Minifigs ME range. The Classic Fantasy Figures collection includes seventeen miniatures. The miniatures vary in size from 20mm to 54mm tall.

One Scruby miniature fan made the comment that "Scruby miniatures are so ugly they are cute." I will add that the few that I own look very anemic, but for nostalgic sake I do intend to add a few more of these miniatures to my collection. Scruby miniatures grow on you.

Historifigs 20mm Hobbit

This is not the first Histroifigs miniature I have purchased or have completed. I own of three of Histroifigs, Classic Fantasy Figures. Formally I had completed a Histroifigs Elf firing a long bow.

In my reading I have learned a few things about this line of miniatures and had not realized the complete significance of these miniatures. I will have to make another post or two about this line of miniatures explaining their significance to the gaming community.

In order to complete a scene, I have in mind; I would like to pair the Hobbit up with the Histroifig wizard on a rearing horse.

Histroifigs 18mm Monsters

Why 18mm miniatures?

1). It is about time that I add a few monsters to my collection.
2). Monsters can be played as wild cards, creatures that show up randomly throughout play.
3). 18mm is not too much smaller than 20mm, the size of miniatures that I am planning on playing them against.

Histroifigs, TI-03, Monsters (bag of 3 mixed), contains three different monsters, which I will do my best to describe.

One the miniature is winged, the winged piece will need to be attached, to what looks like a furry body with a tail. This creature is standing on its hind legs and has long sharp claws on its feet. The creatures face is hidden behind one of its two front paws that look like crab or lobster claws.

The second creature resembles a crouching bear. It has its snout sticking straight up in the air. I mentioned that the creature seems to resemble a bear, but its legs seem too long for a bear and also the way it is crouching doesn’t remind me of a position a bear could put itself.

The last miniature is most troubling out of the three. The creature looks more like a plant than an animal. It has what resembles two legs. Its face, if you want to call it that looks an ill formed flower or perhaps a mouth of an octopus. It has two arms, or are they branches, that are interwoven with vines? At the top of one branch there is a large Venus fly trap and the other with many interwoven creepers. In addition to these features, there are also clumps of growths and has interwoven creepers on its legs and torso.

Projects for December

Although I might add a project or two I will strive to keep the list short this month.

HistoriFigs, #I-03, 3-18mm Monsters

I have wanted to add a few monsters to my collection of war-gaming miniatures. These types of characters can add some random havoc to some dungeon crawl or other game scenario. I am not quite sure how I am going to proceed with the painting, but I do plan on making a slight modification to one of the miniatures in the set.

Blasted Planets Order #2

My order from Historifigs arrived a few days earlier than expected. It contained the following items:

TI-03, Monsters (bag of 3 mixed), 18mm

25mm-Special Figures
BP-002  Brain Siphon (aka N'ood)
BP-003  The Monk
BP-007  Space Vampire w/Needle Gun
BP-004  The Brotherhood: Assassin
BP-005  The Brotherhood: Arsonist

F-12       20mm, Hobbit w/Sword

Overall I am very satisfied with these miniatures. I have made many posts on monsters, but have yet to add one to my collection. The 25mm miniatures will be used in a skirmish game of some sort or with the Blasted Planets game rules. They are all very odd looking and I am looking forward to creating properties and a back story for these characters.

I will be writing more about these miniatures shortly, but in the meantime, I feel compelled to paint my first hobbit. I will get back to you on the progress of these miniatures.

Elves- HistoriFigs, F-5, 28mm Elf- Firing Longbow

Now that I have an elf in my collection (HistoriFigs, F-5, 28mm Elf- Firing longbow) I have done some research into these mystical creatures. According to Microsoft’s Word Thesaurus the following are synonyms of the word Elf (Pixie, Imp, Sprite, Fairy, Gnome, Goblin, and Brownie), however upon closer inspection each of these characters are quite different.

Elves or the singular Elf are supernatural beings are found in German mythology. Earlier traditions thought of Elves as having certain magical abilities capable of helping or hindering humans. Later traditions have Elves using these abilities to harm instead of doing well to humans.

In the fantasy genre, J. R. R. Tolkien’s makes use of Elf characters in the Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Elves in these two novels live in middle earth and have come together with the forces of good to overcome evil. Although Elves are mentioned in these novels much more is mentioned about these supernatural beings in Tolkien’s, “The Silmarillion”.

In some traditions the elf is very similar in appearance to humans, but having a much fairer complexion. Some images of elves depict them as having pointy ears, while other depictions I have seen do not make this distinction. There are some Old Norse traditions that mention some cross-breeding between humans and elves. The offspring were the heroes of old.

I have found two sites that carry a line of Elves, one I assume is now out of production, Citadel miniatures, being created in the 80’s, and the other Reaper Miniatures, still carries a line of Elf miniatures.

40mm Miniatures

With the addition of a HistoriFigs, F-3, Hero, chain mail and with a long sword, 40mm figure to my collection I thought that I would look into this sized figure. The larger the sized figure, typically the better the detail of the figure. You also have more to hold onto when painting. You can also count on paying more for larger figures, if they are in metal, that is. It does seem that plastic figures are more economical than their metal counterparts. However, although plastic figures have and continue to get better in detail, metal figures usually have better detail than their plastic counterparts.

There are a few suppliers of 40mm miniatures. The A Beginner's Guide to Gaming in 40mm mentions several suppliers of 40mm miniatures. 40mm miniatures will cost you anywhere from $5.00 to $15 U.S.

HistroFigs offers several American Civil War miniatures in 40mm. These will cost you $2.25 per piece, while bags of 6 or 12 figures can be had at discounted prices.

Another source of 40mm miniatures is Knuckleduster, which offers some unique Wild West figures, among others. These look like highly detailed figures. These sell for $12 for a set of three.

By the way, Knuckleduster, maintains a blog that will keep you up to date on their line of products.
