The Trolls Market Greeble

The Troll market in Hell Boy 2 is rich in details.

Between the lighting, texture, and scents your sences start to become overwhelmed.

All sorts of magiacal creatures visit the market. These nests await farries that frequently visit the market.

The grinder is avialable for those who need thier meat ground for the barbeque .

Besides the special set lighting that adds to the atmosphere the lamps add to the overall feel of the market.

You can never have to much light in an underground cavern.

I suppose everyone likes their noodles. Homemade noodles are the best.I heard they are a great side, best with a small rodent.

Pipes hang down from topside where the markets water, steam, and electric come from.

Hubcaps and rims? An iteresting collection. Perhaps these were here before the market was established.

There are many scenes that shout for your attention.

It seems like the reception is terrible down here, but that doesn't stop the trolls from staring at the blank screens.

The Map Makers Shop

Once I got past the absurdity of the film and childish behavior of “Hellboy” I did appreciate the varied forms of creatures and the parts they played. Like I alluded to there were quite a few hellish creatures featured in this film and might I make another post or two featuring some of them.

Although there were many rememberable scenes, there is one scene or should I say series of scenes of the troll market. This section of the film featured many remarkable scenes and I found the troll market amazing. To think about all the thought and work that went into these scenes is remarkable.

Anyone of the scenes in the film would make a fabulous diorama, even done without its characters. Or at the least, you could fit any one of scenes into some project. Think of them as greeble. There is so much to see and to study in this section of the film.

I picked out one scene to start a new mini topic-the Troll Market. This post is from the Map Makers Shop:

Ramshackle Games Trolls-Another Look

Ramshackle Games Trolls

Ramshackle Games, Trolls Bagrha and Skargill, stand approximately two inches tall, and are molded from a very dense resin. The quality of their details and expressions are splendid.

“He watched as the trolls gobbled the food and threw the plates and drank everything in sight...”

Vesuvius, King of the Trolls

“Vesuvius was the King of the trolls and the supreme ruler of Marda. Vesuvius smiled wide, his troll face grotesque, misshapen, twice the size of a human’s, with two long fangs, like tusks, that emerged from his mouth, and beady red eyes which enjoyed watching people suffer.”

What is a Troll Other than That?

There is a poem within the Skáldskaparmál describes an encounter between a female troll and one Bragi Boddason.

'Trolls call me
moon of dwelling-Rungnir,
giant's wealth-sucker,
storm-sun's bale,
seeress's friendly companion,
guardian of corpse-fiord,
swallower of heaven-wheel;
what is a troll other than that?'

Reaper Cave Troll

“Troll sat alone on his seat of stone,
And munched and mumbled a bare old bone;
For many a year he had gnawed it near,
For meat was hard to come by.
Done by! Gum by!
In a cave in the hills he dwelt alone,
And meat was hard to come by.”

Stone Troll Poem, Sam Gamgee

This is my first Reaper Dark Heavens Bones miniature. The Dark Heaven Bones line has the following properties and characteristics:

  • 25mm
  • Integral Base
  • Unpainted polymer

Although Bones miniatures are advertised as being 25mm tall, my specimen stands a full 60mm tall from the bottom of its base to the tips of its fingers on its uplifted arms.

Bomber Torch Troll Runt

The following is an excerpt is from the Danish Ballad of Eline of Villenskov. The ballad goes on to describe a troll from Scandinavian mythology.

"Out then spake the tinyest Troll,
No bigger than an emmet was he,
Hither is come a Christian man,
And manage him will I surelie."

Read the complete song here:

Not much in the name, except that the miniature is small, he measures ¾” long. The carry’s a torch and assume a bomb. Because of the way that the miniature molded I am still trying to figure out what this miniature is all about, however, I believe I have a pretty good idea how to proceed now.

I can’t say whether this miniature will end up in some game or on a display shelf.

A Feral Troll

This hard plastic miniature is one of 42 plastic heroes and monsters that accompany the D&D Legend of Drizzt board game. The Feral Troll miniature stands approximately 2.5 inches (63.5mm) high and is about the same broad. The miniature has the following inscription on its base: "Wizards, 2011". As you will take note from the accompanied photographs this fellow is full of detail.

The Lord of the Rings Wiki does not make a mention of Feral trolls, so the Feral Troll must be unique to D&D Legend of Drizzt. The Heroscape Wiki offers the following statistics for this character:

  • Life: 8
  • Move: 5
  • Range: 1
  • Attack: 3
  • Defense: 1
  • Point Value: 90

He is interesting character and excellent piece to have at your disposal.

Three Trolls from the Age of Mythology Board Game

The three hard plastic Trolls stand 30mm and are from the Norse collection of figures included in the Age of Mythology board game. Trolls are from Scandinavian and Nordic tradition and mythology. Trolls are very large creatures and stand between 8 to 10 feet tall. Although not very intelligent they are unscrupulous when it comes to something they want and have no problem, taking, stealing, fighting, or shedding blood for what they desire.
