Boo - Happy Hollowean

I primed this miniature sometime ago and then missplaced it. I found the piece and stuck in my painting draw. Recently, I was looking for something inwhich to make a post. This disembodied spirit is from Reaper Miniatures, a ghost.

The Munk a Blind Guide

“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites 24 You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel.

“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence.

“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean.

“You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell?

Woes on the Teachers of the Law and the Pharisees, Matthew 23

This is one of histrofigs 25mm miniatues from their Blasted Planets Special Figures line. I finally got some paint on it. I reviewed a few of these miniatures back here and here.

Proxie Models 15-20mm Building Ruins

These polystyrene castings are purported to be compatible with 15-20mm miniatures, but I believe they would work for 25mm miniatures as well.

Proxie Models produces a whole line of products for the war-gamer in sizes from 15mm to 28mm. Proxie Models feature: vehicles, terrain pieces, and bases for your miniatures.

So far I have ordered two of their selections. Both structure ruins are cast in a hard polystyrene plastic and look like they will very easy to assemble.

Another Look at the Plague Base

I wouldn’t have believed that I would get another chance to spray paint a base coat on any miniature this winter, but with the thermometer climbing to 670 today I did just that. I took an image of the Black Swans Plague Base sprue just before I did.

Sacre Bleu!- Skirmish rules for the Age of Pirates War-game

This is one of digital titles that I purchased some time ago; another game rules booklet. The Sacre Bleu rule-book provides rules for war gaming in the age of pirates. This fourteen PDF provides rules and advice on the following topics: sequence, decision checks, static shooting, movement, shooting and shooting procedures, hand-to-hand fighting, and creating a force. In addition there are scenarios for four skirmishes. The rules are primarily for skirmishes using anywhere from 10 to 100, 25mm miniatures, but any sized miniatures could be used.

This post marks the fourth year for this blog. Happy Birthday, Ye-Olde-Site-of-Curiosities.

Black Swan Plague Base

This 25mm Black Swan Plague Base is a, multi-part, resin scenery piece which includes a variety of distressed industrial terrain details and a pair of ‘filthy’ little imp like creatures. One of these creatures is molded into the top piece and the other impish creature can be placed anywhere you like. The terrain piece comes with two choices of foundation. One foundation comes with machinery and miscellaneous debris whiles the other base with skulls and maggots. The latter is probably a better choice of the two.

Reaper Dark Heaven Bones Ghost

This 25mm Ghost miniature cast from a white resin depicts a spirit coming out of its grave. Although my camera shot of the miniature may not show all the details of this miniature, this Reaper Dark Heaven Bones is full of detail. I plan on using this miniature in a grave yard scene.

Reaper Cave Troll

“Troll sat alone on his seat of stone,
And munched and mumbled a bare old bone;
For many a year he had gnawed it near,
For meat was hard to come by.
Done by! Gum by!
In a cave in the hills he dwelt alone,
And meat was hard to come by.”

Stone Troll Poem, Sam Gamgee

This is my first Reaper Dark Heavens Bones miniature. The Dark Heaven Bones line has the following properties and characteristics:

  • 25mm
  • Integral Base
  • Unpainted polymer

Although Bones miniatures are advertised as being 25mm tall, my specimen stands a full 60mm tall from the bottom of its base to the tips of its fingers on its uplifted arms.

Extra, extra, read -All Bones About It

This is an extra and unplanned post. All Bones About It is an online diary of one man’s efforts to paint 265 miniatures from Reaper Miniatures first Bones Kickstarter. Chris is currently on miniature number 193. It has been very interesting to follow his progress and to see how his painting has improved over time.

I have known about this project for some time and I do apologize for not making this post earlier. Like many of my plans, it was lost in the shuffle.

There are nine miniatures in this collection. I made a post on three Blasted Planet miniatures sometime back, which included two Chickasaurus, also from the Blasted Planet line and Agent Annya Nova from the Special Figure collection. Blasted Planets Order #2

My order from Historifigs arrived a few days earlier than expected. It contained the following items:

TI-03, Monsters (bag of 3 mixed), 18mm

25mm-Special Figures
BP-002  Brain Siphon (aka N'ood)
BP-003  The Monk
BP-007  Space Vampire w/Needle Gun
BP-004  The Brotherhood: Assassin
BP-005  The Brotherhood: Arsonist

F-12       20mm, Hobbit w/Sword

Overall I am very satisfied with these miniatures. I have made many posts on monsters, but have yet to add one to my collection. The 25mm miniatures will be used in a skirmish game of some sort or with the Blasted Planets game rules. They are all very odd looking and I am looking forward to creating properties and a back story for these characters.

I will be writing more about these miniatures shortly, but in the meantime, I feel compelled to paint my first hobbit. I will get back to you on the progress of these miniatures.

A Host of Characters-Reaper 25mm Leprechaun and Owl

This is not my first Reaper miniature, but it is my first Leprechaun and owl with a rider. The Chronicles of Narnia’s The Silver Chair has a mention or two of talking owl’s carrying humans around on their backs. I will have to go back and pick out these occurrences.

When I was a child me Mum gave my sister and I a good talking about everything Irish and used to talk in her mother tongue often when my sister and I when we vexed her.

Leprechauns are mischievous and not to be trusted, but capturing a Leprechaun would allow you three wishes, the price for his freedom. At the end of the rainbow you might find the Leprechaun’s Pot of Gold.

Although this Leprechaun might have already had two sheets to the wind he has his pipe and his jug and is ready to take off to the great blue yonder.

Attributes for my Reaper Walking Fish

Walking Fish

The walking fish is a Reaper 25mm miniature.  When the extraterrestrials encountered the squids they also encountered a certain species of fish that schooled very closely with the squid, so they seized a few of these fish along with the squid. They believed that since the fish and squid co-existed that they must be allies, but this is far from the truth. In nature this species of fish actually feeds on the squid. However the extraterrestrials didn’t know that at the time of the abductions nor are they aware of the situation even now.

The fish, like the squid were genetically and physically modified to withstand short periods out the water and always accompany the squid on their missions. The fish are thought to be less intelligent than the squid and put in supportive roles. The extraterrestrials still do not understand why so many of the squid never return from their missions and the fish sent along with them are no longer heard of again. They don’t realize, the first chance the walking fish get to chomp down one of their favorite foods the fish gobble up the squid. While digesting the squid the fish’s metabolisms change and they go wild and head back to their own kind and become leaders among their peers.

The walking fish, like the squid men get a 2 for movement and for 1.5 for intelligence.

Reaper Miniatures 25mm Mermaid

This mermaid is a 25mm miniature from Reaper Miniatures#03608: Aquatic Familiars II. I have had this miniature for some time. This photo is from the third photo shoot of this miniature. I haven’t been satisfied with the results up to this point.

I first heard her call on a misty early dawn of morning in June. I didn’t know what to make of the sounds that I heard on this June morning. At first I thought I was hearing things. The sound had a dreamy and hypnotizing quality to it and it drew me too its source. Like I said, I didn’t what to make of it, but all the same I was enticed to pull my rowboat toward these memorizing sounds.

I rowed toward these sounds, which seemed to be coming from somewhere around Crook Island. The Island stood off about two miles from the channel leeward of the sea. Not having a water source the island was not inhabited. The island was one of the many Channel Islands that stood off from the mainland. Crook Island was once the haunt of criminals. The island was roughly 1.5 miles wide, at its widest, and 7 miles long. Some say that there is treasure buried on the Island, but no one as yet has found even a clue of its where-a- bout’s.

The closer I pulled toward the island the more these sounds sounded like someone singing. Singing in a most delightful language, one all its own. I rowed to a little cove, to where I thought I had heard this very particular singing, and pulled my boat up to the beach. I landed the boat and commenced to investigate the beach. Not finding anything there, I walked the full length and width of the island. Still not seeing anything that would explain these strange sounds I walked back to my boat and sat on its gunwhale and I pondered as what to do next. I reached down for my sea bag that sat on the floor boards of the boat and pulled out a beaker of water and some sea biscuits.

While I sat there I pondered on what I had heard and wondered where the song could have come from. After finishing my meager meal I pushed my boat out beyond the surf and started to row back to the main land. It was then I heard a splash off to my right. I rowed toward were the sound had come from and then off in the distance I heard a louder splash.  I rowed to the point of the splash, and not seeing anything unusual I stopped and rested on my oars. It was then I saw a very large tail come-up out of the water. Coming down it created another splash. This time I was close enough to get a good soaking. The creature, whatever it was, took off toward the open water. I heard another splash. I looked intently toward the spot of the last splash and saw a shock of red hair and then the face of what I reconvened to be a mermaid. It was a most beautiful face; one with the most alluring aspects. Was she was trying to lure me out to the open sea?

I had heard tell of stories, where the mermaids had lured the un-expecting out to the open sea with their womanly charms only to have that person never to be heard of again. I started to row back to the main land. I swear I heard a moan-full cry as I rowed back. I didn't look back until I had safely reached the mainland.

25mm Reaper Miniatures Sea Aberration

This aberration is part man and part fish. Is it a freak of nature or a genetics experiment gone badly? Whatever the case, I would not want to meet up with this creature while out scuba diving. This 25mm miniature is from Reaper Miniatures Aquatic Familiars II pack. This was one of the miniatures on my January Projects list.

There is one more from this collection that I need to complete, but I cannot find a paint scheme that I am happy with.

IMEX 1/72-25mm Eastern Friendly Indians

The Eastern Friendly Indians set is part of IMEX’s American History series and includes a combination of 43 figures and scenic pieces. The quality of the figures is not stellar, however these miniatures would work well setting up an Indian village diorama.

Reaper Octopus Aberration

This is the first miniature that I have completed from Reapers Aquatic Familiars II. I had previously completed a Morey Eel from their #P02948B which included the Dragon Fish and Morey Eel. Other miniatures in this familiar pack are a crab, mermaid, and an aberration which looks a large fish with a diver’s helmet on its head.
