Here is a short list of HO gauge figure suppliers.
Supply HO gauge people and wildlife figures. Figures can be used for multiple eras from 1940’s up until the present.Woodland Scenic’s provides painted figures, but does offer a few figures that are unpainted. The figures are those that accompany some of their metal kits.
Supplies HO gauge people and some wildlife figures. Figures can be used to depict people in rural areas from early twenties through early forties.Fun & Games figures are unpainted.
Offers a large collection of scale people and wildlife. Figures could be used from eras from 1890’s through the early 1940’s. Musket Miniatures come unpainted.
Preiser supplies figures that are mostly modeled after modern counterparts, but does provide some period figures (1890’s, 1940’s military, and American Civil War). Also provide many wildlife figures, and horse drawn wagons of European origin. Preiser’s figures are painted very finely. These figures come in sets and are on the expensive side.
Rusty Rail offers three sets of figures that depict characters from 1880’s through 1940’s. These figures are unpainted and although they are cast in some unique poses they are not highly detailed.
Browser-Selly provides a few figure and wildlife sets. Selly figures could be used to depict figures from the twenties through the early fifties.
The miniature is from Preiser’s #10036 their Standing Truck drivers. The figures are in 1/87 scale and I am not sure what scale the Dump Truck is, if it is in scale at all.
Although Preiser does manufacturer horse drawn wagons, the wagons are of European prototypes and are prebuilt and are not buildable kits. Here is list of the available buildable horse drawn wagon kits of American prototypes that I am aware of. If you know of other sources please feel free to let us know of their existence.
Jordon Highway Miniatures
1/87 Scale Information
Jordon produces the following styrene kits. These kits’s usually consist of a spruce or two of some very fine machine injected parts, which can be very delicate, so be careful when removing them from the spruce. These models are finely detailed and run in the $5.00-9.00 range.
Musket Miniatures offers a nice collection of wagon kits that are manufactured in white metal. Some wagons can be purchased with a horse, mule, or oxen teams. These kits usually come with a horse or horses (2), driver, and load. (Will be indicated in the list).These kite range in price from $5.00-28.00. Most can be purchased for under $10.00.
Selley (A division of Bowser Products)
Bowser-Selley offers a few white metal wagon kits. These kits are in the $6.00 to 10.00 range.
This collection is almost complete. These figures are from Thomas miniatures, now defunct, and are part of their Civil War collection and represent remnants of a couple artillery crews. In order to field these figures I need to complete two cannon. I believe I have between six and eight cannon, of different types.
At the time I had thought of adding a Civil War reenactment scene to my layout, but I wasn’t able to purchase enough of these miniatures to create a convincing scene. Although Preiser does manufacture American Civil War figures, to create the scene I had in mine would be too costly.
The Miniatures Calendar has been existence April 2011 and has featured one small miniature scene each day since then. The author, at least, makes some use of Preiser figures. I cannot vouch for the size of his miniatures, but I am guessing that they with HO or N-gauge.
