Danglars was the supercargo on the same ship that Dantes was
captain and was one of conspirators that had hatched the idea of denouncing
Dantes to the authorities as being an agent of Bonaparte. This quote was made after his
plan of denouncing Dantes had come to fruition.
“Danglars was one of those men born with a pen behind his
ear, and an inkstand in place of a heart.”
